Oþala
Animalhead in wood from the Oseberg-grave.
Welcome into an ancient Nordic world!
Please my friend, come in and make yourself comfortable. I have made this site especially for you, who are interested in the history, the life and the Mythology of the old Northmen and Vikings.
Within Oþala - you will get closer to these former days than ever before: you will meet different people and Gods, Elves, Dwarfs and Trolls. You shall experience the old exciting legends and listen to heroic deeds and brilliant battles from the past.
Face the powers of evil and learn how to live and act.
Beware of the dangers, and never trust a maiden's word, nor a man without a sword or an axe, as he is a true fool, risking his life like that!

An Oþala-rune
Oþala (OTHALA) is the 24:th rune in the first Nordic Fuþark and it stands for inherited land, real property and yeomen and it symbolizes one's native soil, traditions and inheritage.

A man shall not brag - of his bright intellect,
But rather show - his prudence and caution;
When the quiet and wise - arrives to a farm,
He is seldom harmed - or in trouble.

-Hávamál, The Poetic Edda

Thor-hammer in silver
This site is about the Æsir cult - which was the prevailing religion in Scandinavia for more than one thousand years ago.
Read about the main events in the belief in the PROSE EDDA and share the legends of heroes and bold men.
The sections within the Æsir cult right beneath Legends ... are all for looking up a special place, person or a word.
We are very happy and proud to present the Runic section within our site. Here you can read all about the runes and the different fuþarks used by the people of the North from the time around Christ was born until the beginning of this century!
We also have a section with only runic stones, with original rune-language texts, translations, pictures and more.
The RUNIFORM ORNAMENTS page consists all inscriptions that aren't made on stones - but on bowls, tools, weapons and such.
The Runic stone of Jarlabanke
Statue of Frey - the God of fertility
If you are looking for something special you may find it in some of the glossarys on this page, if not, email us and we'll try to help you out!

We will be adding a great Viking-section to this site, with all you have ever wanted to know about them - and much more...
Hee, hee...

Enjoy!
