Jar Quilts for My Nieces.
I assembled and quilted these quilts in both in one week (I seem to work well under pressure to complete quilts by a certain date) as gifts for my nieces who were coming to spend a few weeks at my house (June 1999), play in the pool and generally be someplace other than their own house. I had purchased food fabrics from around the states as I got a chance (I tend to collect them since I work with food for a living), and then drafted the block patterns to resemble jelly jars and short half-pint jars. The blocks are paper pieced, then sewn together and borders etc. added. Each quilt has the jars of the same fabrics except for one in each which contains a piece of the backing from the other quilt (the green quilt has a dinosaur in a jar, the blue a scardy cat). Both quilts were machine quilted by outlining the jars and shelves and stippling in the background and borders so that they would withstand the wear and tear they are going to get in daily use.
This is my niece Ariana (4 years old)with her new quilt.
