The idler gear is a metal part, and shouldn't pose any problems. My only concern is that it has a high rotating mass.
The top-shaft gear is a fairly straight forward piece. It is also connected to the slipper, which consists of a felt-like-substance disk enclosed in two plastic halves. A spring provides the ability to adjust the slipper to your like. This is the first slipper I had built, and I had to have someone else adjust it for me. But it will only take you once to learn how yourself.
The entire package is enclosed in a composite gear box. I had purchased the aluminum blue screws, and used several of these lighter screws to complete the tranny. (yellow arrow above)
