Minnie Reynolds Adams, 95, of Stuart, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999, at Patrick Community Hospital. She was born in Patrick County on September 15, 1904, and was a daughter of the late Maury and Una V. Reynolds. Her husband, John Shockley Adams; a son, Ralph D. Adams; and several brothers and sisters preceded her in death. She was a member of Stuart Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Nancy Flippin of Stuart; a daughter-in-law, Grace Adams; three grandchildren, Karen Gammons, Jon C. Flippin and Christina Lyon; one sister, Clarice Reynolds of Stuart; one brother, William M. Reynolds of Stuart; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with the Rev. Jim Churchwell officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Robert Reynolds, Ray Roberson, James Roberson, Jimmy McHone, Kenneth Reynolds and Bill Gunter.

S. A. Alderman Jr., 71, of Laurel Fork, died Monday, November 15, 1999, at his home. Surviving are his wife, Vivian Burnette Alderman of the home; three daughters, Rhonda A. Horton of Hillsville, Sandra Alderman and Glenda Alderman, both of Cana; one son, S. A. Alderman III of Laurel Fork; two sisters, Bell Sutphin and Alvey Sutphin, both of Laurel Fork; and one grandson. Funeral services will be held Thursday at the Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady chapel in Hillsville. Pastor Harold Fenstermaker will officiate. Burial will be in the Sollie Alderman cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
ELDEAN M. CARTER
Eldean Martin Carter, 90, formerly of Patrick Springs, died Wednesday, November 10, 1999, at her home in Woodstock. A native of Critz, she was born October 7, 1909, and was a daughter of the late Bohnson F. and Nannie Ware Critz Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Troy C. Carter, in 1993; and her sisters, Madaline Thomas, Nannie Sue Barton, Erna Nance and Elizabeth T. "Buck" Martin. She was a graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School and was a member of Providence United Methodist Church. She worked as the cafeteria manager at Patrick Springs Elementary School and was active in the auxiliaries of the Patrick Springs Ruritan Club and Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Department. She was a past director of the Meals on Wheels program. Surviving are one daughter, Irma Ruth Nicholson of Harrisonburg; one son, Robert F. "Pete" Carter of Fieldale; and three grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Friday at Providence United Methodist Church by the Revs. Kay Marsh, Fred Gilley and Harvey Nicholson. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Nelson, Randy Carter, Jerry Nance, Steve Burton, J. B. Gilley, Alfred Martin, Larry Vernon and Ronnie Mabe. Arrangements were by Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.

Kibler Watson Carter, 88, of Patrick Springs, died Thursday, November 11, 1999, at Patrick Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born June 29, 1911, in Patrick Springs, and was a son of the late Crawford and Fannie Martin. He was a veteran of World War II. Surviving are one sister, Myra Martin of Patrick Springs; and one brother, Taft Carter of Richmond. A graveside service was held Friday in the Providence United Methodist Church cemetery. The Revs. Kay Marsh and Fred Gilley officiated. Pallbearers were Mike Nelson, Randy Carter, Jerry Nance, Steve Burton, J. B. Gilley, Alfred Martin, Larry Vernon and Ronnie Mabe. Arrangements were by Howell Funeral Home.

Robert Harvey Cobb, 88, of Patrick Springs, died Tuesday, November 9, 1999, at Patrick Community Hospital in Stuart. He was born March 24, 1911, in Critz, and was a son of the late Pledge and Lucy Cobb. He was retired from Cooper's Mill in Critz. Surviving are his wife, Eunice Clanton Cobb of the home; two sons, Robert E. and Michael Harvey Cobb, both of Patrick Springs; six daughters, Lucy Hunt and Linda Hunt, both of Martinsville, Faye Cobb of Patrick Springs, Dorothy Holmes of Critz; Clara Penn and Laverne Penn, both of Patrick Springs; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Gethsemane Pentecostal Holiness Church by Elder Gordon Warren. Burial was in Mt. Nebo Holiness Church cemetery. Arrangements were by Howell Funeral Home, Stuart.
MANIE H. GAMMONS
Manie Lucille Hill Gammons, 75, of Claudville, died Monday, November 15, 1999, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born May 7, 1924, in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late William Robert (Bob) and Irene Smith Hill. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Henry Camden Newman; an infant son, Beryl Duane Gammons; and three brothers, Glen Hill, Larry Hill and Herbert Hill.
She was retired from F. Rees Company and was a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Frank Gammons of the home; one son, Ronnie Newman of Mount Airy, N.C.; and four brothers, Arthur (Buck) Hill of Mount Airy, William S. (Bill) Hill and Charles Hill, both of Claudville, and Fred Hill of Stuart.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Hills Grove Baptist Church. The Revs. Barry Clement and Fred Moretz will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

Ann Klemmer Knowles, 78, of Oakhurst Dr., Stuart, died Monday, November 15, 1999, at Patrick Community Hospital. She was born in Illinois on February 5, 1921, and was a daughter of the late Hans A. and Pearl Wetta Klemmer. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William F. Klemmer and Hans A. Klemmer Jr. Surviving are her husband, Roy E. Knowles of the home; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Funeral services and interment will be held at a later date in Illinois. W.R. "BOB" MARTIN
Willie Robert "Bob" Martin, 68, of Stuart, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Stuart, he was born August 11, 1931, and was a son of the late Abe R. and Nellie Gunter Martin. He was a 1949 graduate of Stuart High School and was a graduate of Danville Community College. He was a veteran and served in the Korean War. Martin was a past member of Stuart Rotary Club, was a life member of the Patrick County Jaycees, and was a member of Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd and Stuart Baptist Church. He was the retired owner and publisher of The Bull Mountain Bugle newspaper. Surviving are his wife, Martha "Mott" Martin of the home; three children, Brenda Martin, Edd Martin and Pat Lyon, all of Stuart; and one granddaughter, Ashley Marie Lyon. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Howell Funeral Home chapel. The Revs. Jim Brackett and David Hunsicker officiated. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Eddie Turner, Kelly Witt, Bob Helms, Jack Hundley, Nelson Hunt, Fulton Clark and Bill Gunter. NELLIE H. PETERS
Nellie May Hairston Peters, 84, of Philadelphia, Pa., died Sunday, November 14, 1999, in Philadelphia. A native of Patrick County, she was born October 19, 1915, a daughter of the late John W. and Carrie Benton Hairston. Her husband, George Peters, preceded her in death. Surviving is one daughter, Charlotte P. Williams of Philadelphia.
A graveside service will be held Monday, November 22 at 2 p.m. at the Hairston family cemetery in Stuart. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.
EVERETT A. PLASTER
Everett Akers Plaster, 82, of Collinsville, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born in Anawalt, W. Va., on September 15, 1917, and was a son of the late Everett Minter Plaster and Pattie Ziglar Plaster. Four sisters, Dovie P. Mabe, Mae Greenwood Foley, Elsie P. Shough and Annie P. Rorrer; and three brothers, Hilmer G. Plaster, James R. Plaster and Charlie W. Plaster preceded him in death.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he was employed 29 years as a clerk.
Plaster was a member of the Wilson Street Pentecostal Holiness Church and the American Postal Workers Union.
Surviving are his wife, Mabel Clay Plaster of the Blue Ridge Rehab Center in Martinsville; two daughters, Lois Mae White of Rockingham, N.C., and Judy Carol Lovejoy of Bartlesville, Okla.; one brother, Earl Plaster of Patrick Springs; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Wilson Street Pentecostal Holiness Church. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

LUCILLE A. SPENCER
Lucille Ayers Spencer, 87, of Woodland Dr., Stuart, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. A Patrick County native, she was a daughter of the late Charles L. and Nora Frances Clark. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Ayers, William "Bill" Ayers, Clark Ayers and Cary G. Ayers; and a sister, Essie Shockley. She was a graduate of Averett College and worked as a teacher's aide at Stuart School. She was a homemaker and was a member of Stuart Baptist Church for 41 years. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Cecil W. Spencer of the home; two daughters, Frances S. Williams of Salem and Deanna Atkinson of Chesapeake; two sisters, Elva Shockley of Blue Ridge Nursing Center and Jessie Mae Vernon of Stuart; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at Stuart Baptist Church by the Rev. Clint Hopkins. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Baptist Church Building Fund or the charity of the donor's choice.

Pauline Minnie Cook Vipperman, 85, of Ararat, died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born in Stokes County, N.C., on October 4, 1914, and was a daughter of the late Alonzo and Daisy George Cook. Her husband, Arlis Wendell Vipperman; a sister, Irene McClure; and two brothers, Joe Cook and Dick Cook preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Surviving are four daughters, Ruth Vipperman of the home, Judy Gammons of Mount Airy, N.C., Phyllis Clement of Ararat and Faye Holyfield of Ararat, N.C.; three sons, Teddy Vipperman and Kelly Vipperman, both of Mount Airy, and Oza Vipperman of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; one sister, Ruth Shelton of Stuart; one brother, Jack Cooke of Mount Airy; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Asbury Pentecostal Holiness Church. The Revs. Charles Webb, Buford Jessup and Eugene Brinkley will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

DALE F. WATSON
Pastor Dale Franklin Watson, 53, of Danville and formerly of Patrick County, died Saturday, November 13, 1999, after a lengthy illness. He was born in Columbus County, N.C., and was a son of Dewey P. Watson of Mount Airy, N.C., and the late Inez P. Watson Bolt. He was preceded in death by a sister, Tracy Lott. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and attended Forsyth Tech in Winston-Salem, N.C. Watson was ordained as a minister in 1974. He served as pastor at New Hope Church of the Brethren for 13 years, then served as pastor of the First Church of the Brethren for the last 14 years. Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife of 31 years, Mary B. Watson of Danville; one daughter, Cheryl Harrison of Ringgold; one son, Bryan Watson of Eden, N.C.; three brothers, Bobby G. Watson, Clyde P. Watson and Gary S. Watson, all of Mount Airy, N.C.; three sisters, Martha Stuttes of Asheboro, N.C., Susan DeVoe and Jeanie Bolt, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; his stepmother, Martha Watson of Mount Airy; his stepfather, Kenneth Bolt of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart by Revs. Harry Shelton, Danny Gilley, Ricky Berkley and Marvin Wade. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy.
Pallbearers were Teddy Lawless, Truman Lawless, Russell Hiatt, Ronald Foley, Dennis Aquilo, Elwood Montgomery, Otis Turner, Dale Clark, George Brannock and Paul Thompson. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gideon Bible Fund.
HARVEY L. WATSON
Harvey Lee Watson, 77, of Greenville, S.C. and formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died Thursday, November 11, 1999 at St. Frances Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1922, in Westfield, N.C., and was a son of the late Thomas Winston and Lula Goad Watson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Flippin Watson.
He held an honorary doctor of law degree from Indiana Christian University, and was legal and financial advisor and founder of consulting development service before his retirement. Watson was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a member of First Assembly of God.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy Reeves Kennan Watson of the home; three daughters, Cecelia Perrell and Nancy Tate, both of Greenville, and Rebecca Reed of Hendersonville, N.C.; one son, Philip Thomas Watson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; six stepdaughters, Pat Fowler, Linda Meredith, Joyce Connolly, Joan McManus, Debbie Anastas and Judy Schwedtfeger; one sister, Hallie Hopkins of Meadows of Dan; an adopted brother, Riley Goad of Fayetteville, N.C.; six grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sunday at Asbury Pentecostal Holiness Church. Rev. Wesley Flippin and Stu Epperson officiated.

RADFORD-Martha Spence Shelor, age 95, formerly of Willis passed away Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at Meadowbrook Nursing Home, Shawsville. She was the daughter of the late George and Peora Belcher Spence and was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Seaton Shelor. Several nieces, nephews and cousins survive her. She was member of the Willis United Methodist Church. Funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 1999 at the Willis United Methodist Church with Reverend Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Maberry Funeral Home, Floyd, handled arrangements.

Surviving is a son, Harry Shorter and wife, Claudie of Whitehall, MD; a grandson, Harry Shorter, Jr., Seven Valley, PA; two granddaughters, Cynthia Blevins, Glen Rock, PA , Kimberly Shorter, Woodbridge;great-granddaughter, Kaithlin Shorter, Seven Valleys, PA; two stepsons, Marvin Rakes, Raliegh, NC and Allen Rakes of Pofftown, NC; sisters, Hazel Ferris, Floyd, Georgianna Link and husband Leon, Bristol, Tennessee, Bonnie Conner and husband Arthur, Copper Hill, Velva Davis, Virginia Conner and Iva Morgan, all of Roanoke; Dexter Sowers, Copper Hill; brother, Woodrow Conner and wife, Reba, Sarasota, Fla. A special niece Frances Gardner and husband, Olen of Riner. Numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Church (Head of the River) with Rev. Olen Gardner and Elder Lane Carter officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Wood Funeral Home, Floyd, handled arrangements. ELMOND O.(SQUIRRLEY) WEEKS FLOYD- Elmond O. (Squirrely) Weeks age 76 of Floyd passed away Thursday, November 11, 1999 at the Salem, VA Medical Center. He was a navy veteran of World War II and a lifetime member of the Floyd County Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife Vivian B. Weeks, Floyd; three sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Karen Weeks, Bainbridge, GA, Allen Weeks, Parker, AZ, James Weeks, Alexandria, step-son, Derwood Agee Floyd; step-daughter, Vaughnia Harmon, Floyd, 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral services was 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 14, 1999 at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with Reverend Roy Turpin officiating. Burial followed in the Lee Cemetery (Tuggles Gap). WILLIS-Betty Gardner DeHart, age 62, passed away Sunday, November 7, 1999 at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, John I. DeHart, Jr. Surveying are a daughter, R. Lynn DeHart, Willis; two sons and daughters-in-law, John M. and Lynn DeHart, Cameron, NC. , Tom and Nancy DeHart, Ruther Glenn; three grandchildren, Thomas Wayne DeHart, Jr., Christopher Ryan DeHart, Amanda Lauren DeHart; brother, Ray Gardner, Port Charles, FLA. Funeral service was held Wednesday, November 10, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home with Rev. J.C. Willard officiating. Interment will follow in Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery.
