Family History says: Thomas Arnett, a white man, married Jane Harden, a full blood Cherokee Indian, who was born in Giles County, Indian Lands, Tennessee. They moved to Georgia, and lived on a large plantation. They were burned out because of their mixed marriage. She and Thomas with their children fled back to Tennessee. More about Sarah Arnett:
Sarah Elizabeth Arnett married Bill Gibson in Tennessee, at the age of 14 years. They had 14 children but only seven grew to adulthood. Because of health conditions, the Gibson family came to Violet Hill, Arkansas (near Batesville). Mary Elizabeth, the oldest Gibson child married William Lee McAnally in Franklin, Arkansas on 26 Dec. 1885. They had seven (8) children. In 1900 The Bill McAnally family, the Bill Gibson family and Swank family started for the Indian Territory. There were 7 covered wagons in the train. After 20 days dangerous travel they reached the new town of Ada and found a long log cabin on Goose Hill (Norris place). They leased this cabin from the Perry family. For some two years the McAnally's lived on the Perry farm, then he found and moved into a larger house at Hird, I.T. 1905 was a year long to be remembered. Bill McAnally bought a Home Comfort Range (cook stove) and a "drop head" sewing machine. The sewing machine was used to make the wedding clothes for their oldest daughter, Inez, who married Harvey Luther when she was 16 years old. Bill McAnally bought a city block (after most of Hird had moved to Ada when the railroad came through) and we moved into a larger house in 1908. We went to school at Colbert and one year we had a "winning" debate team. Report by Ethel M. McAnally Scott
