8/18/1993 A Batesville resident just celebrated her 102nd birthday with the help of her family from near and far. Pearl Coop Wright, a resident of Wood-Lawn Nursing Home, was born July 29, 1891. She is the daughter of the late W. J. and Sarah Luster Coop. Family members had a birthday party for Mrs. Wright at the nursing home. Mrs. Wright was married to William Thomas Wright in 1909. The Wrights were pioneer settlers of Independence County. She became a widow in 1934. Subsequently, she owned and operated a small grocery store on Central Avenue. During World War II, Mrs Wright moved to Jacksonville, where she worked at the Arkansas Ordnance Plant. After the war, she worked at the Crippled Children's Hospital in Jacksonville. Mrs. Wright is the mother of three chilren, Kenneth W. Wright of Burton, Michican, Opal M. Fike of Batesville and Oma J. Jones of Onalaska, Texas. She hsa four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Many of Mrs. Wright's relatives were present to celebrate her birthday. |
