Notes:
NORTH KOREA HAS BEEN AN ACTIVE SPONSOR OF TERRORISM AND HAS CARRIED OUT TERRORIST ACTS OF INFILTRATION, ASSASSINATION, AND BOMBINGS IN THE PAST AGAINST THE SOUTH. LISTED HERE ARE SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT BY THE NORTH KOREAN GOVERNMENT. TWO OF THE MOST NOTEABLE EVENTS HAPPENED ON AUG 76, WITH THE TORTURE AND KILLING OF TWO ARMY OFFICERS NEAR THE DMZ (THESE TWO OFFICERS WERE BRUTALLY CHOPPED TO DEATH), AND THE ATTEMPTED INFILTRATION OF TWO NORTH KOREAN AGENTS IN NOV 95 INTO KUNSAN AIR BASE.
IN EARLY JULY 1997, NORTH KOREAN SOLDIERS ENTERED INTO THE DMZ AND ADVANCED TOWARDS A ROK GUARD POST. ROK SOLDIERS FIRE UPON THEM AND INJURIED OR KILLED SOME OF THE nK SOLDIERS.
IN OCT 97, TWO ROK FARMERS WERE CAPTURED ALONG THE DMZ FOR ASSUMELY CROSSING OVER INTO nK TERRORITY. THE WERE RELEASED TO UNITED NATIONS OFFICALS ONE WEEK LATER.
SO AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE’S STILL QUITE A BIT OF TENSION BETWEEN THE TWO COUNTRIES.
