Covenant
United Presbyterian Church
- Covenant was organized in July 1854 by Reverend Richard Overton
Watkins. Reverend Dempsey William Broughton was the church's
first pastor. While living in Kaufman, Broughton also served
as Chief Justice of the county and was instrumental in the organization
of Trinity University in 1869, a church school belonging to the
Presbyterian Church USA, Synod of Texas.
- The Covenant United Presbyterian Church in Kaufman, Texas
bears the State's Official Historical Medallian marking it as
an historical landmark.
