James Broughton & Descendants

James (or John) Broughton was the descendant of American Revolutionary War patriots. His lineage is as follows:

Willoughby Broughton and Elizabeth Christman

--their son, Job Broughton, of Virginia, married Mary Lewis

------their son, Dedrick Broughton married Sarah Burton.

James was the son of Dedrick and Sarah (Burton) Broughton. The couple also had a daughter, named Malinda Broughton, who became the wife of Thomas Wood, a grandson of the first settler to Laurel County Kentucky, John Wood. Thomas served in the Civil War along with three of Dedrick Broughton's sons in Company A, 24th Infantry Regiment from Kentucky.

James married Mary Jane Jones. They had six children:

Harvey Boyd Broughton

Harvey Boyd Broughton, son of James and Mary Jane (Jones) Broughton married twice. His first wife was Mollie Davis. Harvey and Mollie had four children:

Harvey's second wife was Alverda "Buddy" Richardson, who was born January 9, 1883 and died March 17, 1950. Together the couple had two children:

Harvey Boyd Broughton Jr.	b: January 16, 1915

Harvey passed away one month before his youngest son (and namesake) celebrated his 5th birthday.

Leonard Gardner Broughton

Leonard Gardner Broughton was born in November 7, 1891 to Harvey Boyd and Mollie Davis Broughton. Leonard married Lela Virginia Cox, the daughter of Charles Simpson Cox and Mary Ellen Good. She was only a few months younger than her husband, having been born February 24, 1892.

The couple would have five children, one dying in infancy:

Leonard died in 1928 in Kentucky, just three years after the birth of his daughter, Lena.

Ruth Broughton married Jack Tackett and had three children: Betty Sue Tackett, Nyla Jacqueline Tackett and Jackie Tackett, Jr.

Evelyn "Ruth" Broughton

Evelyn "Ruth" Broughton married Russ Cummins and had a son whom she named David Cummins. Her second husband was "Tex" Gooding. Together they had a son named Gerald Gooding.

Evelyn died in 1999.

"LG" Broughton Jr.

Leonard Gardner "LG" Broughton Jr. first married a woman named Ruth (maiden name unknown). The couple had a son, named Leonard Broughton, who later married a woman named Bonnie.

LG married a second time to a woman named Elaine. They had two children: Michael Broughton and Carrie Broughton.

Charles E. Broughton

Charles Eugene Broughton was born on December 7, 1922 in Harlan, Kentucky to Leonard Gardner Broughton and his wife Lela Virginia Cox.

Charles married Mattie Jo Craig, who was born May 12, 1924 in Chattanooga Tennessee. The couple married on July 30, 1945 in Chattanooga. Charles and Mattie Jo had four children:

Lena A. "Buddy" Broughton

Lena Alverda was apparently named after her grandfather's second wife. The two also shared the same nickname "Buddy." Lena married Kanny Johns, who was born on Jan. 11th (yr?) The couple had four children: Linda Johns, Kathy Johns, Kenny Johns, and Jeff Johns.
