Many young men served in the highly controversial and tragic Vietnam War and some no doubt answered to the name Broughton. But there are two Broughtons whose names are forever etched in our nation's memory because of their ultimate sacrifice. Their names are on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. Private Robert Ballard
Broughton's name appears
on panel 23W, line 070 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
in Washington D.C. Robert was born on April 21st, 1950 in Cleveland,
Ohio. As a member of the Marine Corps, PVT Broughton served our
country until June 5th, 1969 in Quang Tri, South Vietnam when
he became a casualty of the Vietnam War. He had joined the service
less than a year earlier. He was 19 years old and was not married.
Robert died from an undetermined explosion. His body was recovered. Specialist Four William Ernest Broughton's name appears on panel 08W, line 125 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. William was born on December 31st, 1944 in Middletown, Ohio. As a member of the Army, SP4 Broughton served our country until August 20th, 1970 in Khanh Hoa, South Vietnam when he became a casualty of the Vietnam War. William died from illness or disease.
