in World War I
- E BROUGHTON -
Private - 2nd Bn., Devonshire Regiment
He died on Wednesday, 24th April 1918. He was the son of Mr.
J. Broughton, of 21, Tenter Buildings, Newark, Notts. His memorial
is located on Panel Number XII.B.2 at St. Pierre Cemetery on
the north-eastern side of Amiens, on the main road to Albert,
Somme, France.
- E BROUGHTON -
Private - 2nd/6th Bn., North Staffordshire Regiment
He died on Tuesday, 24th April 1917. He was the husband of E.
Broughton, of 14, Burton St., Tutbury, Burton-on-Trent. His memorial
is on Panel Number II.H.8 at Bray Military Cemetery in Bray-sur-Somme
about 9 kilometers southeast of Albert, France. There are now
nearly 900, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site.
Of these, over 100 are unidentified.
- EDWARD BROUGHTON -
Private - "D" Coy. 10th Bn., Sherwood Foresters (Notts
& Derby Regiment)
He died on Tuesday, 31st October 1916 at the age of 23. His parents
were Benjamin and Annie Broughton, of Strawberry Villa, Newtown,
Retford, Notts. His memorial is on Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and
11 A on the Thiepval Memorial in Somme, France. It's located
on the D73, off the main Bapaume to Albert road.
- EDWIN BROUGHTON -
Private - 2nd/8th Bn., Manchester Regiment
He died on Monday, 8th October 1917. His memorial is on Panel
#120 to 124 and 162 to 162A and 163A of the Tyne Cot Memorial
to the Missing located in the Tyne Cot Cemetery which is on the
road Tynecotstraat, 9 kilometers northeast of Ieper town center
in Belgium.
- ERIC CYRIL BROUGHTON - Private - 2nd/22nd Bn., London Regiment
He died on Thursday, 8th November 1917 at the age of 19. His
parents were David and Mary Ann Broughton, of 29, Thorold Rd.,
Ilford, Essex. His memorial is on Panel Number J.84 in the Beersheba
War Cemetery in Beersheba, Israel. It is located 43 kilometers
southeast of Gaza and 74 kilometers southwest of Jerusalem. There
are now over 1,000, 1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this
site.Of these, nearly 100 are unidentified.
- ERNEST BROUGHTON -
Private - 2nd/6th Bn., West Yorkshire Regt. (Prince of Wales's
Own)
He died on Thursday, 3rd May 1917. His memorial is located on
Bay 4 of the Arras Memorial which is in the Faubourg-d'Amiens
Cemetery on the Boulevard du General De Gaulle in the town of
Arras. The Memorial commemorates almost 35,000 casualties of
the British, New Zealand and South African Forces who died between
Spring 1916 and 7th August 1918, with the exception of casualties
of the Battle of Cambrai in 1917, and who have no known grave.
- ERNEST BROUGHTON -
Private - 7th Bn., North Staffordshire Regiment
He died on Saturday, 28th September 1918. He was 23-years-old.
He was the son of Willoughby H. Broughton, of 93, Stockbrook
St., Derby. His memorial is on Panel Number IV.F.16 of the Tehran
Memorial in the Tehran War Cemetery which is located inside the
British Embassy residential compound at Gulhek Iran. The memorial
commemorates casualties of the Indian, United Kingdom and New
Zealand Forces who lost their lives during the campaign in Iran
(formerly known as Persia) and who have no known grave. The cemetery
contains 412 1914-1918 burials.
- ERNEST BROUGHTON -
Private - 1st Bn., Leicestershire Regiment
He died on Saturday, 12th August 1916 at the age of 26. His father
was Samuel Broughton, of Leicester. Ernest's wife was Mary Broughton,
of Cochrane, Ontario, Canada. His memorial is on Panel Number
3.D.7 at Heilly Station Cemetery southwest of the the village
of Mericourt-l'Abbe, Somme, France. There are now 3,000, 1914-18
war casualties commemorated in this site. Of these, a small number
are unidentified and special memorials are erected to fifteen
soldiers from the United Kingdom, four from New Zealand and two
from Australia, whose graves could not be exactly located.
- ERNEST BROUGHTON -
Private - 16th Bn., Lancashire Fusiliers
He died on Thursday, 23rd November 1916. His memorial is on Pier
and Face 3 C and 3 D of the Thiepval Memorial which is on the
D73, off the main Bapaume to Albert road in Somme, France.
- ERNEST CHAMIER BROUGHTON - Lieutenant Colonel - 3rd Bn., York and Lancaster
Regiment
He died on Thursday, 17th December 1914 at the age of 56. He
was born in London, the son of R. J. P. Broughton, and his wife,
Louisa Heaton-Ellis. Ernest married Jane Henrietta King Keane
Broughton, of "Callipars," Dorset Rd., Bexhill-on-Sea.
He also served in Egyptian (1882-4), and the South African Campaigns
and was the recipient of the King Edward's Coronation Medal.
His memorial is on Panel Number E.6.14 at St. Marylebone Cemetery
in Middlesex, England.
- ERNEST WILLIAM BROUGHTON - Private - 14th Bn., Royal Warwickshire Regiment
He died on Sunday, 23rd July 1916 at the age of 23. His parents
were John and Eliza Broughton, of Trafford House, West Bar, Banbury,
Oxon. His memorial is on Panel Number XV.G.27 at Caterpillar
Valley Cemetery in Longueval, a village approximately 13 kilometres
east of Albert, Somme, France. Within the cemetery, the Caterpillar
Valley (New Zealand) Memorial commemorates those officers and
men of the New Zealand Division who fell in the Battles of the
Somme, 1916, and whose graves are not known. There are over 5,500,
1914-18 war casualties commemorated in this site.
