in World War II
- CECIL SHELBY BROUGHTON -
He was awarded the Purple Heart for his Allied
service in the United States Military during World War II. A
disabled veteran, Cecil was honorably discharged and returned
to his home in Louisiana, where he passed away on December 8,
1999. [Picture]
- CHARLES BROUGHTON - A civilian who died on Sunday, 6th December 1942 at
the age of 20. He was the son of Alice Rosina Broughton, of Milner
Estate, East London, South Africa, and of the late William Broughton.
His memorial is found in the S.S. "CERAMIC" section
of the Civilian War Dead Register.
- CHARLES ALFRED BROUGHTON
- Private, 5th Bn., East Yorkshire Regiment.
He died on Tuesday, 6th April 1943. He was 26. His parents were
Alfred and Sarah Ann Broughton, of Wortley, Leeds, Yorkshire.
His memorial is on Panel Number: Sp. Mem. "C". 17.
H. 17. of the Medjez-El-Bab War Cemetery Memorial, located 3
kilometres west of Medjez-el-Bab on the road to Le Kef (Route
P5). The memorial commemorates those members of the First Army
who died during the operations in Algeria and Tunisia between
8 November 1942 and 19 February 1943, and those of the First
and Eighth Armies who died in operations in the same areas between
20 February 1943 and 13 May 1943, who have no known graves.
- CHARLES EDWARD BROUGHTON
- Lance Corporal, 253 Field Coy., Royal Engineers.
He died on Thursday, 16th November 1944 at age 29. He was the
son of Joseph and Mary A. Broughton, of St. Helens, Lancashire.
His memorial is on Panel Number: II. E. 10. in Mierlo War Cemetery,
located 12 kilometres east of Eindhoven, Netherlands. There are
now over 650 1939-1945 War casualties commemorated in this site.
- CHARLES SAMPSON BROUGHTON
- Skipper - Fishing Fleet
He died on Tuesday, 8th September 1942 at age 41. He was the
son of Richard Ward Broughton and Fanny Broughton, and the husband
of Amy Broughton, of Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire. His memorial
is on Panel 12 of the Tower Hill Memorial in London. The memorial
commemorates men of the Merchant Navy and Fishing Fleets who
have no known grave.
- CLARA BROUGHTON -
She died on Wednesday, 16th April 1941 at the age of 59. She
was the daughter of Benjamin and Mary Broughton of Eccleston
Square. Her memorial is found in the City of Westminster section
of the Civilian War Dead Register.
- CYRIL FREDERICK BROUGHTON
- Sergeant, 4th Regt., Reconnaissance Corps,
R.A.C. He died on Thursday, 6th May 1943. He was 30-years-old.
His parents were Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Broughton. His wife was M.
A. M. Broughton, of Peterborough, Northamptonshire. His memorial
is on Panel Number: I. N. 17. at the Massicault War Cemetery,
located about 25 kilometres south-west of Tunis on Route P5 to
Medjez-el-Bab, Tunisia. Most of the men buried in this cemetery
lost their lives in the preparations for the final drive to Tunis
in April 1943, and in that advance at the beginning of May.
