They were warned... They are doomed... And on Friday the 13th, nothing will save them.
Filmed in Blairstown, New Jersey at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco from September to November in 1979, Friday the 13th was made for the bargain price of $700,000 by director Sean S. Cunningham. He decided to make the film based on the financial success of Dawn of rhe Dead and Halloween. Paramount picked up the film for distribution, and it opened in over 700 theaters on May 9, 1980. The film went on to gross over $37 million in the United States alone. It was the second biggest hit of the summer of 1980, behind only The Empire Strikes Back. Several sequels have been made, and the series combined has grossed well over $200 million.
