Put down your pencil and notebook. Grab some popcorn. Sit back and enjoy the show...
Today is the first day I've actually sat and just watched the film, or at least part of the film. What a wonderful experience.
We finished the sound for reel 1 today at about 4:30 or so. Dave turned on the DAT recorder and we sat and watched it, understanding whatever passes scrutiny at this point is in the film for all time. The myopic blinders fell away as I found myself viewing the reel as an artistic, linear presentation.
Words can't describe the sensation. You just have to live through it. So many years have gone into it to get to this point, and I know every frame. But they add up to greater than the sum of the individual frames. I can't wait to see it, seated in a dark theater with an audience seeing it for the first time. I have to get it to that point.
Film sound is such a cool process. So high in quality. Dave and Sean have done a fantastic job. When Dave finished the recording he dropped the little DAT in my hand. What's it weigh? One ounce?
Tomorrow we tackle reel 2.
Some asides: I need to have the video reels redone with the tail two pops since they're not on the ones I have. Spoke to Immaculate Matching and they definitely need this. The sound facility needs it, too, otherwise no one knows when we reach end of picture. It will also be a good time to fix the missing window dub at the end of reel 2. I have to reach Zachary and arrange all this.
