Spent some time reviewing previously recorded wild track and the B roll footage I shot in '95 in New Mexico, Upstate New York and Pennsylvania. I catalogued the wild track with the time code of what might be useful, and recorded the footage for what I would like transferred for the B roll. I whittled the B roll down to about 10 1/2 minutes, which should save me some money for the transfer.
The wild track included some neat stuff I'd forgotten I'd recorded: ambient noises, resonating bells, seagulls, crickets, wind in trees. I was actually thinking back then! Initially I wanted to retransfer it to one DAT, but I figure I can just log it and either have Karen transfer it to Betacam in the lab, or download it directly from the original DAT to computer later. I'll have to talk to her and see what would be cheapest in the long run.
Debbie's loudspeaker thing that I recorded in Atlanta sounds fine. I'll use it instead of renting a bullhorn. I can always add a little echo to it in post, but as it is it already sounds like something you'd hear over a loudspeaker, having used those toy walkie talkies.
Now all I need to do is get myself about 50' or so of black leader to splice the B roll negatives together, send the unprocessed film in to the lab (unload both cameras on Thursday, send out on Friday), schedule the final transfer and sync with Monaco (let's say a week from Monday). That will give me time to finish up the wild track, and get the film back from Alpha Cine.
Need to call Monaco tomorrow regarding the status of my negatives, and to get counsel from Karen regarding the sound stuff.
