Goodness, where does the time go? Completed 7 minutes of dub in about 6 hours. It was pretty rough going: Lots of cuts. I'm not at all happy with the way the dream sequence came out, but that's about the best I can do on my VCR. You'd have to be psychic to get much closer than three seconds, with the delay and all. And since the collage sequences have very short cuts, I guess that's that.
Since the dirty dub is only to give the editors something to go by, (and me something to look at in my heightened state of expecation, huh huh) I think a better method for collage scenes would be a writen description complete with time code, which means I'll have to previsualize it, which is what I should be doing anyway. It'll surely need some major tweaking, but that's what the editing process is all about. I just need to make sure I have a good list of shots for the editors to download to disk. Trim that fat. Save time, money and many headaches.
Spent all day Sunday (and I mean all day) stringing together the B roll footage I shot back in August of '95. The stuff spans five states: NM, PA. NY, GA, and CA. I cut it down quite a bit, which should save me $$$ for the telecine transfer. I'm calling the composite result Camera Roll #39. I'll take it, camera rolls 35, 37 and 38, DAT #7, sound logs and instructions over to Monaco tomorrow, as soon as I figure out how to get over to the city during this unfortunate BART strike.
Whoo, thank heavens for video transfer. Stringing together that B roll was painful, and I wasn't even editing really, just searching for scenes I had already picked out as good. And the footage counter I bought eons ago came in very handy as well. I finally bit the bullet and mounted the Hollywood film winds more securely. That made a lot of difference. Better be careful or people will start calling me a film maker.
I need to get cracking on this dub. Need to work on it more than just the weekends. And no more Fridays off...
