Showed highlights of the rough dub to a receptive bunch last night. How many times will I see this film by the time post is complete?
I joke about watching the film so many times, but if anyone should be intimately familiar with every frame it's me. Funny, now that production is but a fond memory, I don't think so much about what was going on on the set for any given scene but can see the film more as a cohesive whole.
Hats off to the actors. They really shine through. And that's what it's all about, not how much money I spent or who brought stale bagels to the set. So much adversity. I thought that I was the only one that really suffered during production, but all I needed to do was suck it up and persevere. Okay, so maybe I almost went insane. At least I didn't have to act.
And such long takes! The principals gave incredible performances. And it was probably rougher going than more lucrative roles they might have in the future. I don't know many directors that would expect an actor to do a five minute take and get it right the first time. But those were the constraints and they did it without any complaints. And now I can fully appreciate that.
