Scene 42 - the Church

This scene opens to an establishing sequence, a floating, wandering camera. We see mountains in the distance, trees, the hotel where Carol, Bruce, and the girls are staying. The camera enters Carol's room, through the window(Carol sleeping); the girls' room with Mary's empty unmade bed; Bruce's empty room. Billowing curtains separate the camera's travel from one room to the next. The camera then travels back outside. A dissolve takes us from the front of the hotel to the front of the church first shown in scene 31. A church bell is ringing.

The rest of this scene is accompanied by a Native American chant.

Bruce and Mary are sitting in front of confessionals in a pew. From behind, Bruce is on the right, Mary the left. There is a woman sitting to their left, praying the rosary. Another woman is behind them waiting to take confession.
