Talkers take up a fair amount of my time, I have to admit. Whether this is a good thing or not is probably up for debate. It proves one thing - I have no life! Ermm.. Scratch that ;-) Let me tell you a story of how it all began - are you sitting/standing/kneeling/squatting comfortably? Yes? Then I shall start...
Once upon a.. Ok, ok, I don't need to go back that far.. It all started with a MUD called The Edge of Darkness. This was fun for me to play, I got to meet a lot of new people through it, and because of it I was able to go to America for a month in 1995. MUDding was all great fun, but then I came across a talker called Clover Gardens and was hooked! Finally I had found a way to talk to people across the world without having to worry about finding food, drink, money and things to kill!
After a while of being on Clover Gardens I went to more talkers and came across one based on code called NUTS, which was written by Neil Robertson, and found that I was able to get his original NUTS code from an FTP site (goto the NUTS homepage). And that's when I started Way Out West (my own talker) in November '95. Since then Neil has brought out new versions of his code, and I have been modifying and updating mine based on his newest code. I also have my own version of the NUTS code (I think everyone does these days!) called Amnuts (Andy's modified NUTS).
It has a lot of commands I thought NUTS could do with, and a few other changes. If you would like a copy of this code to run your own talker, then email me for it.
I now code and help code for a few more talkers, as well as my own. So I am online quite a bit (not good for the phone bill! ;-) I have met many really great people online, and have the good fortune to met some of them in person.

Ok, so I had to put this one at the top because it's so damn amazing, brilliant, fun, charming, and just generally wonderful throughout, much likes it's creator, owner and programmer, really... Wait a complement-giving moment! That would be.. Me! (my, wasn't that a surprise? ;-) |

This is Metho's talker, and is one that I also help code (along with Amano and Metho). This talker has a large user base, and most of them are really nice people. It's based in, believe this or not, Australia (it also runs on a server in Australia too). |
