Principal
photography is scheduled to begin June 26, 2000 at Fox
Studios Australia, with Lucas as Director. According to Producer
Rick McCallum, shooting should wrap around the end of August
followed by a month of location shooting in Italy and
Tunisia
Director
George Lucas and producer Rick McCallum held a press conference
in the Royal Palace at Caserta, Italy. Caserta
doubled as Queen Amidala's home in The Phantom Menace, and will
again form part of the Naboo background to be seen in Episode II.
Here is a transcript of today's conference:
Q: How many days are you here?
George Lucas: We are supposed to be shooting here for two days.
We have been in Italy for a little over a week. We have been
in the north, around Lake Como
In
Seville, Spain, more than three thousand fans started waiting
at 5 a.m. at the Plaza de Espaņa to greet the cast and crew
upon their arrival on September 13 2000.
In
preparation for the shooting of the new "Star Wars II" trilogy,
work has started on the building of the film sets in the Tunisian
south. Filming locations will include Chott El Jerid, Chott
El Gharsa and Matmata, on the edge of the Tunisian
Sahara.
George
Lucas called "It's a wrap" on the principal photography shoot of
Episode II at Elstree Studios in London at 1.45pm
Wednesday 20 September 2000, one and a half days ahead of
schedule. "It was a dream shoot", says Rick McCallum, " and to finish
ahead of schedule was just icing on the cake of what has been an
incredible experience for all of us.
We started in Sydney with our amazing Australian crew, and
traveled through three continents and five countries
in a 61 day shoot, and to finish early is a real credit to
the fantastic people who have been with this production from day
one, as well as those who have joined us along the way. Our Australian,
Italian, Spanish, Tunisian and English crews couldn't have been
better."
With these revisions and additions to the storyline, the film enters
its next stage of production as additional shooting is scheduled
to take place March 24 to April 8, 2001. Producer
Rick McCallum and his production crew have been busying re-assembling
sets, constructing new ones, and getting the Ealing Studios prepared
for the shoot. "The England shoots will be mostly in front
of bluescreen," says McCallum. "Though we've been really busy since
we wrapped in September, it's always exciting to get back in front
of the cameras."
