The List of Novels is in Chronological Order Within the Star Wars Universe

SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE
by Steve Perry
Time Period : Between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi
I am currently reading this stand alone novel. Shadows deals extensively with the underworld of the Star Wars Universe. Because the novel occurs between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi there is no Han Solo (remember he is frozen in carbonite). The author does come up with a Han-like character Dash. The only downside is that this character is developing exactly like Han.

THE TRUCE AT BAKURA
by Kathy Tyers
Time Period : Immediately After Return of the Jedi Another great stand alone novel. Truce provides a nice break from the mainstream Star Wars Universe. The Rebel and the Empire join forces (interesting enough to read the book) to battle the Ssi-ruuk, a strange droid/being like foe.

STAR WARS : X-WING
by Michael A. Stackpole
Time Period : Two and a Half Years After Return of the Jedi
Book 1 : ROGUE SQUADRON
Book 2 : WEDGE"S GAMBLE
Book 3 : THE KRYTOS TRAP
Book 4 : THE BACTA WAR
A great series thus far. X-Wing features the heroes of the rebellion, Rogue Squadron. A great thing about this series is that most of the characters are new, yet the old favorites are there: Wedge, Leia, Ackbar, etc. Reading this series is also refreshing because none of the characters are sure to survive (anyone can guess that Luke, Leia and Han are not going to be killed in any other of the novels). I am presently patiently waiting for the last book.

THE COURTSHIP OF PRINCESS LEIA
by Dave Wolverton
Time Period : Four Years After Return of the Jedi
As the title suggests this stand alone novel has guys banging down Leia's door. Of course Han is the choice of the heart, but Prince Isolder would bring his 60 world's riches to the New Republic. Somewhere in the mist of all this Luke and Isolder battle a bunch of Jedi-Witches (apparently Darth Vader missed an entire planet of Jedi potential). The downside to this novel is that anyone who read any other post-movie novels knows Han gets the girl and Isolder is never heard from again.

TIMOTHY ZAHN TRILOGY
by Timothy Zahn (Obviously)
Time Period : Five Years After Return of the Jedi
Book 1 : HEIR TO THE EMPIRE
Book 2 : DARK FORCE RISING
Book 3 : THE LAST COMMAND
In a review of this trilogy enough good things can not be said. Regardless of the books Timothy Zahn revitalized the Star Wars Universe. If not for these books my love of Star Wars would be next to nothing. That said the books are terrific. Grand Admiral Thrawn is the single best villain since Vader, you almost want him to crush Luke and friends... almost. The crazed Jedi Master Joruus C'baoth provides a great opponent for Luke to test his Jedi skills.
