May 2000 guests... Ellie Gelling - 05/01/00 country: England comments: Anyway, for about 15 years or so, I've gotten to like and love his performances. on and off-screen. I was on holiday in Malta, (booked since Xmas 1998) just under a year ago and thought to pay our respects at 'The Pub'. My husband sat in THE corner unknowingly, at 2:30, June 2nd 1999. A month since.... it was Quite eerie to be honest since we hadn't paid much attention to any detail to times etc., of the sad occurrence, only that Reed had died very recently there. Anyway, I found this website today, May 1st, and will be logging on often from now on. Excellent! With respect, remember tomorrow... Michael Macaulay - 05/01/00 comments: It's one of the most bizarre films I've ever seen, and believe me that' a lot of odd movies. He plays a sadistic butler to Derek Jacobi's fey aritocrat. Ollie's performance is staggering: both comical and sinister by turns. He occassionally adopts a strange hybrid accent and an odd walk which only highlights the absurdity of the whole film further. Can I just add that it's a joy to see a site dedicated to Reed the actor rather than the, er, dubious celebrity he became in his later years. He was a truly gifted man, and an excellent actor to boot. Anyone with his accent who bases his entire method (untarined of course) on Jack Palance has got to be a winner! Alun Brooks

you are having a great time up there with Mooney, and the other fine drinkers

Lets all raise a glass to Ollie the last Gladiatator. Cheers to

comments: I have been a fan of Reed's since I worked as Reed's stand-in during the filming of on Assault on Paradise (Ransom) filmed in Arizona in the 70s. I still have the shirt he gave me. Oliver Reed was an inspiration to me and I will always consider him a friend. We had a great time in Arizona. I will never forget working with him. Victoria Karr - 05/12/00
comments: I was all excited to see Oliver in his latest film, until heard him being addressed as the "late" great Oliver Reed. We shared the same birthday, Feb. 13.th His was earlier (mine is in 1957). But I was thrilled anyway. I always liked Oliver. He could play the sexy menacing role to the T,--perhaps it was himself. Well, he did it better than anyone else. Mr. Reed acted from the heart. It was not about making all the money. And I feel, well damm, he had fun. I'm so happy you have this site. I think he would approve. |
Comments: He was not only a superb actor but also incredibly handsome! If you see Curse of the Werewolf, you'll see his eyes are so beautiful; what a sex machine! I can't believe he's gone. I read the paper and watch the news, but never heard a word of him passing on, I just found out today when I looked up the Hammer site and found this one. Hey, at least we still have his memory through his movies. God bless Ollie. I love you baby. And thanks for this website. Susan - 05/15/00 Comments: This site has been wonderfully instrumental for me and I'd like to thank those who have put their time and heart into it's construction and continuance. It gives us all a common ground, a meeting place to share our memories and tributes to a truly remarkable man/actor. In your honor, Reed...I visit once again, and I remember...always. On May 4th, 2000 we girls at work were discussing "hot" actors and everyone named their favorite. I, of course named Oliver Reed. That was when I found out the world lost Oliver Reed. What can you say about a man you have lusted after for 34 years? I am devastated! Kim Love- 05/19/00 comments: I was shocked when I found out he was dead, and at such a young age. I will go see his last film and thank you for letting me know what it was. I will be returning again. Erica - 05/19/00
Comments: Unfortunately I was unaware of his death until recently, but I thoroughly
enjoyed his performance in Gladiator and find it interestingly parallels
the loss of man whose wilder days are now behind him. (although his brooding
wasn't as pronounced as usual). Tina Darvell
- 05/24/00 comments: He was a great actor who made some great films and a few bad ones (beer money). Nevertheless he is a legend and should be remembered for his great acting and screen prescence and not for staggering onto aspel and all that nonsense. I shall drink tonight to the great man`s honour Judy Reichert - 05/24/00
comments: We saw Gladiator in Niagara Falls last Saturday. The reviewer in the Toronto Star newspaper said it was sad and ironic that Oliver Reed's best film since Women in Love would be his last, and suggested that it was worthy of a Best Supporting Actor nomination for an Oscar. I would have to agree. Gladiator is one of the best films I have seen in years. Russell Crowe and the rest of the cast are amazingly good in this epic blockbuster. Oliver Reed acts his heart out. I was not able to pick out the cut and paste done to finish the movie after Oliver Reed died, but my husband said he could tell the last speeches done by Oliver Reed had a different voice. David Hemmings is also in the movie, and although good in his role, it is sad to see that the ravages of time have not been kind to him. Even though this cannot be Oliver Reed's comeback film, I hope that it is David Hemmings comeback, and that life is kinder to him from now on. Will keep reading this site for news and updates on Oliver Reed projects.
Keep up the great work. Joan Turner -
