I don't know how to get MIDI files up here so that you can download them, so you can't hear what's up. You can read about it, fortunately, in this little update about "In-House."
Back in the days of ninth grade, K-Rah upon occurrence in the halls would demand of me to write lyrics for a rap group we might make one fine day. After a month or so of writing, we figured we had some cuttin flyness, for which we would use later. At the time, our method of recording was a pitiful reel to reel Sony two track that my dad bought at a garage sale. We looped some Wu-Tang tracks, which would be track one, then record the cuttin flyness we were so delighted about on track two.
Stephen Day, known now as Da Stanx was with me in my study hall that semester, and when we couldn't go to the band room to bust out some jazz improv, I would tell Stephen Kelly's and my goals concerning the rap group and he would write a style of rhymes all his own. That summer, we were hooking up with StePHen usually to go a-skating. One humid afternoon, we voyaged to the thirteen story dorm on Purdue's Campus to chill out in the lounge they had there. Once inside, we sat down intending to write a group song, which has become a trademark of the group which at the time was entitled: The Vapaz. It went like this:
You know, back in the days, this was the bomb. The following year, as sophomores, Kelly became acquainted with Greg Dixon, who during In House membership was the infamous Toniolo, named after a Brazillian G. When we told Greg about our idea for rapping, he offered to join the group and record the group's production through his awesome four track cassette recorder. We agreed.
Some recordings transpired, some did not. Some shows were played at Door #3 - two in fact. The first was awesome, the second blew. Later in the year, Toniolo became upset with Da Stanx, probably for some stereotypical Greg reason, and production halted. The only times the group assembled was to practice for the high school's talent show, for which we received 2nd place and a known name, which was unfortunately "In-House Tribe," a name that Da Stanx made up, and I was never too crazy about.
Rhymes were still written, but never with hope of them being recorded except through the obscure dream of my family ever owning a four track, because we certainly couldn't touch Greg's, what with the feud going on. Then on May 15, 1996 I showed K-Rah the MIDI setup I had at my house, and taught hime how to cut a music track, of which he made three that night. Hope rose, because even though our antique Two Track had burned out, recording vocals plus the MIDI track was possible on a simple stereo. Kelly has made at this point, 56 MIDI tracks by the way.
Just last summer, we did get the four track, a family effort, and we used it to cut five tapes worth of tracks. The album was in sight, though it needed much more. That much more is stil to be achieved, and for now, Kelly and I are going to deliver our own solo albums to the world with about five songs each, possibly on CD because K-Rah's family just got some super computer that can burn CDs.
