Where the Hell
is Ashburton ?
Just a short Sunday's drive into the
country north of Melbourne you'll find a little rustic town called Ashburton. And
now with traffic lights and a sealed main road Ashburton is quickly becoming a thriving
country town.
Ashburton also just happens to be the home of 2 Melbourne icons.
Tex McKenzie and the
Not Quite Right grocery clearance store.
Let's have a little look around Ashburton.
It may seem like any country town in Australia. But the people who are fortunate to be living here have little idea of who they are sharing this very pavement with.
Tex very rarely takes advantage of the free delivery service that Fruit Talk offers preferring to use the opportunity to socialize with his neighbours.
The rumours that some people will travel from the city to get their hair cut at 5 Star Cuts are not at all surprising considering Tex is a very loyal and regular customer.
Just next door the Ashburton Post Office has recently employed 2 new staff to help sort the fan mail addressed to the Tex McKenzie PO Box.
Taking on the major grocery chains is the Not Quite Right grocery clearance store. And riding on the back of a town made popular by Tex McKenzie, the Out of Date and Bad Batch grocery business is becoming hugely successful.
It may look like any
other AV Jennings 3 bedroom "Coachwood" with the optional Family Room, but it's
actually home to Tex McKenzie. It's hard to believe that such a famous Melbourne icon would lead such a humble existence away from the spotlight. Though the Police Protection Unit on the front lawn is a little bit of a give away. |

knowledge or permission of Tex McKenzie.
