At the castle gates they are stopped by a large army and a pursuit begins. Sarah and friends run back towards the goblin city and take shelter in a goblin house.
With the aid of the rocks, Sarah makes her way to the castle. She leaves her friends behind and searches for Toby and Jareth.
Sarah makes her way into and Escher-like room. Jareth is there as well as Toby. Jareth sings to Sarah but realizes that she is no longer listening, instead she focuses on Toby. Toby, however, keeps giving Sarah the slip. Sarah, still searching for Toby, finally comes within jumping distance of reaching him (albiet above him). So Sarah jumps towards Toby, but magically drifts down towards a much changed Escher room. This room is no longer held together by stairs and doors, rather pieces of it are floating around abover her. Sarah is then confronted by Jareth.

At these words Jareth's world begins to fall apart. Jareth turns into an owl and Sarah is transported back to her house. Relieved, she runs along to check up on Toby and is filled with love and happiness when she sees that he is safely asleep in is crib.
Sarah goes to her bedroom and begins to put away her toys and costumes. As she looks into her mirror her friends start saying good-bye. A sorrow takes Sarah over as she looks into Hoggle's eyes.
