Why Taiki?
Why not Taiki? I know a lot of people
have bad opinions about her, but they just don't know her like I do.
I own every ep of Stars and have watched them repeatedly, largely just
to see Taiki. I became her fan the first time I saw the cooking show
ep; she was so adorable in that, especially with that wonderful laugh, I
was hooked instantly! And Taiki is such a complex and moody character,
I notice some new facet of her personality every time I watch.
I love characters like that :-) .
The thing I hate most, though, is when people
say Taiki is ugly. Everyone has bad days, especially in animation,
but on good animation days she can be one of the prettiest characters
in the series! Take the above picture, for instance. Can
you honestly look at that pic and not think she's beautiful?
One look from those violet eyes and I'd follow her anywhere! Besides,
I resemble Taiki. . .if you took her by the shoulders and squished
her down about a foot :-P . . .so remember, insulting Taiki's looks is
about me as well, and I bruise easily. Be gentle to me, be gentle
to Taiki, and we'll all get along just fine.
My Life as a Taiki Daifan
Okay, so at first I didn't think I'd be fond of Taiki, either.
My first idea for which Light to like best was Yaten, of course, because
she's the cute little one with the bitchy personality. And I
do love Yaten; she always knows just what to say to antagonise someone,
and I like that. But from the first time I saw the cooking show
ep, my choice was cemented. Taiki is so adorable in that episode!
Laughing hysterically, with cake splattered all over, she's never seemed
cuter. That scene alone turned me into an instant fan.
But even then, I'm ashamed to say, I liked her despite her appearance
and inadvertantly funny attack, rather than for them, for a long time.
The rest I had to learn to love over time.
I don't even remember when I stopped laughing
every time I heard the phrase, "Star Gentle Uterus!" I guess
if you hear it enough, at some point it just ceases to be funny.
Now I can easily listen to it without laughing, and threatening people
with it IRL usually doesn't even crack me up. It's a very nifty
attack, once you get used to it. And for anyone who thinks throwing
uteruses around is disgusting, I've studied the animation, and I'm convinced
there are no real uteruses involved whatsoever. It usually just
looks like purple beams or blobs of energy, none of which resemble any
part of the female anatomy as far as I can tell. The "uterus" seems
just a reference to her name, "Maker." If it sounds strange, it's
just because we're not used to public mention of uteruses in our culture,
especially in animation.
Unfortunately, fondness for Taiki's looks
was the last and hardest thing to come by. I remember being
upset the first time I realised I resemble Taiki, because even though
I love her, I didn't want to look like the one everyone finds ugly.
*hangs head in shame* Yes, that was evil of me, and I deserve
any "Star Gentle Uterus!" such an opinion gets me. But at least
I got better eventually! A while of talking to people who find
Taiki attractive, a lot of watching vids looking for scenes she looks
pretty in, and I finally realised how attractive she can be.
As if I needed any more evidence I'm a Taiki
daifan: I'm the only person I know who calls her "Taiki-sama."
I've played Taiki in several PBEM RPGs (preferably female only, bonus
if there's a romance with Ami-chan). I've written Taiki-sama fake
fanmail (My
first and favourite , Mediocre Qs, gomen
, They
seem a bit grumpy here. . . ), as well as answered for
others. I defend her passionately in any discussion or whenever
anyone insults her (which, unfortunately, is frequently :-( ).
Just hearing the phrase "meet your maker" gives me funny mental pictures.
. .nearly any "maker"-related phrase does! Any sight or mention
of the Pokemon Koduck makes me think of Taiki, due to an old, recurring
in-joke involving them. Tiki torches may as well be Taiki torches,
and I'm always mistaking the name "Cole" for "Kou." If I see a
tall woman IRL I compare heights with Taiki's. Because of their
budding romance in my fanfics, I'm getting the hugest crush on Ami-chan.
I actively tried to get my real hair to do her style for about four
years. And, worst of all, I got angry once because some guy on television
was captioned "Star Maker" and I was like, "No! He's not the real
Starmaker! Taiki-sama is!" Boy, have I got problems
:-P . . .

Here are pics of me wearing my barely passable

big enough, a big, fake ponytail). I helped make it, even though
I don't know how to sew, so try to be gentle!

short and Rubenesque enough to fit it. Maybe I can use the profits
from this to buy some lavender pants or something ^_^ . Garment, pricing,
and contact details available here.***
Unfortunately, no new cosplay pics yet, but here's
a collage of Taiki and me done randomly, late
at night. I really do need to cosplay her again-- I look so much cuter
and more similar to her now than when I last did it!
Taiki Observations
Taiki Kou is a very tall, very thin being
from a small, green planet called Kinmoku, on the other side of the
galaxy. Her natural gender is female, but the Starlights assume
male forms and become the idol band Three Lights on Earth as a disguise
while looking for their princess, Kakyuu. Taiki's Senshi form is
Sailor Starmaker, who wears a bra-top with a large winged star where the
bow would be, shorts, above-the-elbow gloves and above-the-knee high-heeled
boots, all black leather, in a kind of. . .ecchi Sailor style. Her
Senshi colour is lavender, which makes the trim on her fuku, her large
triple armbands, and her double spiked collars. She has a thin gold
circlet with a star and matching earrings. Her attack is "Star Gentle
Uterus!", which generally looks like purple beams or blobs.
Although Taiki's civilian form on Earth
is of a boy, Maker is always female. Since Kakyuu once asked about
it, I get the impression the Lights were never male back home. But
since she wasn't shocked to see them male, she probably knew they could
change genders if they had to. (Maybe that's the way their
race reproduces?) A lot of people think the three are siblings,
but they aren't. The confusion comes from a misunderstanding of
their names; Kou is actually the given name of all Three Lights,
and their family names are Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten. It would
be too confusing if they were all called Kou, so they're called by their
family names instead. (Calling people by family names is common in
Japan. Umino Gurio, for example, is always called Umino, even
by Naru, whom he's dating!) But since Kakyuu never uses them, and
because of the way the Lights refer to those identities sometimes, I think
the civillian names they use on Earth might never be used on Kinmoku.
Even if that's true, I have no idea what civillian names, if any, they
might use there. A flashback was shown of them on Kinmoku, in a peaceful
time, still in their fuku, so they may be Senshi full-time.
Of the Three Lights, Taiki is the most androgynous
in appearance, speech, and mannerisms. She has shortish brown
hair combed back from her face, but with a really long ponytail at the
bottom. In the last eps her hair gets mussed up and bits fall on
her face, which makes her look especially pretty :-) . Her violet
eyes are quite small by anime standards, but wide, sometimes drawn obliquely,
and framed by long lashes. Sometimes she wears glasses, which makes
her look even more intelligent and sophicticated, though I think smaller
ones might've suited her more. Her face is long and angular, with
a long nose, a prominent forehead (which the animators sometimes got
carried away on and made huge :-( ) and a long, pointy chin. Her
physical features seem typical for Kinmokuseijin, at least judging by
the few I've seen. I really like how exotic Kinmokuseijin faces
look. I wonder why they're so thin, though? Some pics look so
thin it's actually gross!
I don't think any of the Lights sound truly
masculine. Hear their voices on audio only, so the male visuals
don't influence your opinion, and you'll hear what I mean. Taiki's
voice is lowest of the three, but still sounds distinctly feminine, and
like the other Lights', it tends to go high when she's emotional.
Her usual tone of voice, however, is calm, quiet, and can sound monotonous.
Taiki usually speaks politely and in gender-neutral terms, i.e. "watashi"
rather than Yaten's boyish "boku" or Seiya's brash "ore".
Sometimes she sounds arrogant and doesn't show proper respect, however,
usually when she thinks or knows she's right about something. The
people she speaks most familiarly with are the other Lights, of course.
The three of them address one another without honourifics, which for the
Japanese means a romance or, in their case, extemely close friendship.
When they talk amongst themselves even Taiki seems less concerned for politeness
or her cold public face, and the three of them openly express their thoughts
and feelings, even when it leads to an argument. Taiki says arguments
are a sign of good terms, though, which must be true-- Rei and Usagi fight
all the time, and they're close as sisters! Some people think Taiki
sounds like a drag queen, but I like her voice, and find her (rare) laughter
absolutely adorable! I don't know how the cooking ep was really her
first laughter in years, though, since I swear I saw her giggle before that,
in the gym. As for her singing voice, it sounds deep and smooth; pretty
much like her speaking voice, only less monotonous. . .and sexier, I think.
If you want to get picky, she does have a hard time hitting the high notes,
but somehow I think her voice cracking sounds cute. I like Taiki's
image song so much I've been known to play it on repeat for hours, and if
you think her voice cracks on the high notes, you should hear me when
I sing along!
Taiki likes to read and study, and has a
special affinity for poetry. That's because she has a hard time
with emotions. Reading poetry helps her get in touch with her
feelings, and writing poetry helps her express them. She's so
reserved, I think poetry may be her only means to expressing her emotions
most of the time. She is extremely intelligent, at least as smart
as Ami, but with a more practical, logical mind, and also seems smarter
about the universe in general. They have a lot of friendly competition,
but they also seem to have a lot of respect for each other. . . except
when Taiki feels she's right about something, when she can seem rude even
with Ami. Still, there are some things she can learn from Ami: Taiki,
with her usual cold view of the world, saw no need for dreams and romance
until Ami convinced her otherwise. She was also convinced being around
Usagi made bad things happen after Seiya was hurt helping her, but, partly
because of Ami, she eventually saw that wasn't necessarily true.
I'd love to see them date, since they seem to flirt in some scenes and
obviously have chemistry. I know she's Ami's type, since in Ami-chan
no Hatsukoi, Ami says she wants someone like a young Einstein (no-one's
smarter than Taiki!), associates love with academic competition (who gives
her more than Taiki?), and goes starry-eyed over a guy in a magazine who
bears a striking resemblance to Taiki. I don't even think gender would
be an issue to Ami, as often as she lets seemingly pro-gay comments slip.
Once you get past the shy, reserved nature of each, it's hard to imagine
them not dating! Unfortunately, I don't think it's possible for them
in the series, since the Lights had to find their princess and go home to
their planet on the other end of the galaxy :-( . Fortunately, I'm
writing fics where they do become a couple even as we speak :-) .
But if you think Taiki is boring, you just
aren't paying close enough attention! I know her public face is
usually cold and reserved, but her real personality is very kind and sensitive.
It's hard to see that in most episodes because of the facade; the easiest
time is when she visits Ami's sick little friend in the hospital.
Yes, she got grumpy on the first visit, but only because Usagi was asking
too many fangirl requests when she was tired of pandering, and was losing
hope that their message was being heard. The fact Misa heard the
message and could see the princess in her mind helped Taiki regain her
faith, and she befriended and encouraged the little girl in return to help
her through her surgery.
Her other big personality trait is moodiness;
if you pay attention you might see her angry, brooding, annoyed, happy,
brave, selfless, and bemused all over the course of one episode!
Taiki's wild mood swings actually worry me, because I fear she might suffer
from depression.
All Three Lights have good reason to be depressed-- they've
been through so much in what seems like such a short time! When
Galaxia attacked their world, the Lights were unable to defend it
and were forced to either flee or die with the rest of their race.
They travelled across the galaxy to search for their princess. Even
while Three Lights' music permeated the city, there was no sign of Kakyuu,
and they frequently worried their message wasn't reaching her at all.
Throughout the series, they all expressed occasional feelings of doubt
or hopelessness over their mission, and guilt over being the last survivors
of their world. All three likely suffer from depression and post-traumatic
stress, but I worry about Taiki more than the others because she seems
more likely to immerse herself in her studies and deny her feelings than
go into counselling over it. I just hope they all feel happier once
they get back home and start rebuilding.
Since Seiya spends so much time chasing
Usagi all series, Taiki spends a lot of time with Yaten by default.
The two seem to get along pretty well, but I don't see them going out
and having fun all the time the way Seiya does. Probably that's
got more to do with Taiki and Yaten putting the mission before fun most
of the time, than that they have too little in common to have a good time
together. I think Taiki and Yaten have more in common than they do
with Seiya, because Seiya can be so boisterous and hyperactive, where
the others are brooding and moody. Apparently their moodiness is
catching, since Seiya goes uncharacteristically quiet a lot of times
when they're together. I could imagine, though, in better times
it's Seiya's hyperactivity that catches, so back home the three were probably
even closer and had lots of fun together. As far as human friends
go, I think the Lights are friends with all the Inners, just not especially
close (except Seiya with Usagi). I think Taiki gets along best with
Ami and Mako because they have the most in common with her interests, such
as Ami's love of studying and Mako's gardening. The one who amuses
her most is obviously Usagi, and Minako probably frightens her most because
she's so overzealous in her idol-chasing!
There's a lot I don't know about Kinmoku
or its people, of course. My current theory is that it's similar
to Earth, since the Lights seem to have so little trouble adjusting,
but I'd like to think it has its own quirky alien culture, just different
enough to make things interesting. I think their world must've
had contact with Earth at some point in the past, since they have life
forms in common (kinmokusei flowers, at the very least, not sure what
else). Travelling Kinmokuseijin can appear as shooting stars, so
it could have happened easily and without notice at any point in history.
Since the idea of a whole planet of androgynous people intruigues me,
I like to think everyone on Kinmoku can change genders at will, and there's
no concept of fixed gender or orientation there. Coming from a world
where everyone is sexually compatible provides interesting theories on
romance, and how odd it must've been once the Lights came to Earth and
learned of fixed gender identity and sexual orientation. It's fun
to make theories and write fics to speculate on what life on their world
is like, but I wish I knew more about the Lights' real past, and the people
of and life on Kinmoku. I'm sure their real culture is more fascinating
than anything I can come up with! Unfortunately, the only details
I've found were in a fanfic some people pass off as the truth. I
don't believe a word of it. Firstly, because no-one's been able to
produce the magazine the story supposedly appeared in; secondly, because
such a long story would take up its own magazine, not merely answer a question
in a magazine interview; thirdly, it makes no sense for Takeuchi-san to
invent such a long and involved backstory for characters who are relatively
minor in the scheme of things, especially when more important characters
have no such detailed histories; and lastly, there are too many mistakes
the real creator wouldn't have made, such as saying Kou is their last name
or that the Lights were princesses, for example (both of which I clearly
remember from the version I started to read once. . . mistakes like that
were the main reason I never finished :-P ).
My Fanfics
I've read too many authors' fics
where every story they write is set in an entirely different reality,
which I find confusing, so I write all of mine in the same reality.
I've got my own personal Lights continuum running through my fics, into
which I'm even trying to fit the contest one-offs (aside from one AU that
was clearly labelled). It's more work than my Haruka-sama and
Michiru continuum, but I think it's worth it.
Taiki in my fics is the only daughter of
very uptight parents Taiki Akihiko and Mika. Despite being the
father, I write Akihiko as a woman full-time, having been a man just long
enough to produce a child. I don't think either parent is very
comfortable with sex, especially since they told Taiki for the longest
time that babies came from cloning. You're probably wondering why
a couple so adverse to sex would marry and produce a child. I actually
do have an explanation, but I'm not telling yet! Akihiko is in medical
research and doesn't spend as much time at home as her daughter might
like, but when she is, they seem to have a good father-daughter relationship
despite Taiki having felt expected to follow in her father's footsteps
as a scientist (before she had to become a Senshi). Akihiko is described
as brunette and plain-looking, unusually tall and physically strong, but
"built like a stick", and her daughter seems disappointed at resembling
her more than the beautiful, blonde, curvaceous Mika. The only physical
trait Taiki gets from her mother is her violet eyes, which displeases her,
though she is glad not to have her mother's mind; Mika's not the brightest
crayon in the box! I wonder if her apparent lack of a job has to do
with her intelligence, or if it's her choice to be a housewife? Even
as a child, Taiki is quiet, moody, and prone to morbidity, writing about
subjects like her dead kitten or the end of the world. She collects
grave rubbings from previous incarnations of Maker, and spends a lot of
time worrying over how often and horribly Senshi die. She reminds
me of Lydia from _Beetlejuice_, in a way-- kinda gothy, but in a cute, innocent,
childlike way. Around Taiki and Yaten, though, she's more comfortable
and playful, more like a normal little girl.
The Lights get their powers at age nine
in my fics, earlier than they had in any life before. This was
because Kakyuu was raised to age five by the previous Lights and missed
them so much since, she sought out their next incarnations as soon
as possible. The way of their world seems to be to find, test,
and educate young Senshi about their history and powers before they're
given their henshin devices. Being so young, my chibi-Lights had
to work extra-hard to prove themselves before they were allowed to take
their place as Kakyuu's Senshi. Part of their training included
simulations in which they had to "defend" an actress by throwing rubber
balls at "assailants", while calling out their real attacks. Poor
chibi-Taiki trying to overcome her shyness enough to shout hers is priceless
comedy!
Since they are so young, I had to invent
older Senshi to defend the world until they could themselves.
I have no group name for them yet besides just "the Queen's personal Senshi",
but I'm open to suggestions. Individually their names are Sailor
Starhunter, Starreaper, and Starraider, Senshi born of older stars and
fueled by more primal energies than the Lights. They think themselves
naturally superior to the younger Lights, and never miss a chance to try
to prove it. The rivalry between the groups has gone on as long as
they've co-existed. Not much is written about them yet, but I've established
Hunter as their leader, Raider as the most hot-headed, and Reaper the
quietest and most reasonable one. Though, since I think Reaper corresponds
closest to Maker, she would be the one to taunt her the most.
I've been determined to get Taiki and Ami
together from the beginning, and between the shyness of both, it's
been hard, but I think it's finally coming together. I've established
Taiki's preference for smart, shy, kind, and understanding girls with
big, soulful eyes, or at least by Seiya's account. The only thing
both her friends could agree on was her definite preference for girls
with short, dark hair (an indication of good taste!) :-) . When
Taiki-sama's distance got in the way, I used the unfortunate plot device
of her parents' death as an excuse for her to open up with her feelings.
. . not that she needs an excuse anymore! Once I'd written about
Taiki and Ami's (not so) pretend relationship and trip to the Grammys,
I was convinced they could form a relationship with no such excuses.
All they both really need is some confidence and support from friends,
and everything falls into place on its own :-) . I'm still working
on finding out ways to keep their relationship on when the Lights go back
home. Even if they have to commute, alternating seasons or years living
on each other's world, or if they have carry on mostly from a distance,
I'll make it work between them somehow.
Taiki in the Myu
During the first stage, Taiki was played
by the very beautiful and talented actress, Ono Hikari. I admit I first
thought Hikari wasn't pretty enough to play Taiki, but as soon as I saw
her in video I changed my mind. I swear, no still photos do this
woman justice; she's just so much more beautiful in action! And,
best of all, she's very good at looking androgynous, so when playing Taiki
she looked almost like a real boy, yet looked like a beautiful girl playing
Maker. Hikari is tall, though not even approaching Taiki's height,
but she is thin enough to look good in the leather "bondage fuku."
Her voice is low enough to suit the role, and like Taiki, she sometimes
has a hard time hitting high notes while singing! But while Taiki
is quiet and serious, Hikari is the total opposite. From what I've
heard, offstage she can be very immature, fun-loving, and hyperactive,
and she played Taiki similarly.
When played by Hikari, Taiki is seldom her
quiet, moody self. Her Taiki flirts with women indiscriminately,
even admitting outright she's like that with everyone. I think the
writers meant her to be the handsome, popular "playboy" type, but with
Hikari in the role, she seems more like she's just playing with her "handsome
idol" status, seeing what kinds of reactions she can get from girls. Odd
as it sounds, I could see anime Taiki trying that out just at first, before
the swarms of groupies grew too overwhelming, as a study in human behaviour.
The idea of strange girls following and professing undying love
for people they don't even know, just because they're popular and good-looking,
is a strange new concept for them. Hikari's Taiki has her serious
scenes, but other times she boings about the stage playing pranks and games,
and just generally acting adorable. Since both Taiki and Yaten were
played by really silly, immature actresses,
Seiya was sometimes relegated to playing straight man to the
others' jokes and getting exasperated by their antics, which actually
can be pretty funny in itself. Any hope of first stage Lights
being serious characters was pretty much out the window by Eien, from
which come the majority of their most famous comedic skits.
Because anime Taiki is such an intelligent,
scientific-minded person, and takes herself way too seriously at times,
I used to think she'd hate the way Hikari portrayed her in the myu,
but I've since changed my mind. Since Usagi's. . .*tries to think
of a kinder way to put it, but fails*. . .stupidity. . .so amuses
her, and the cake exploding on everyone during the cooking show sends
her into hysterics, it's obvious Taiki has a fondness for the absurd.
She'd probably love Three Stooges movies, which is what first stage
Three Lights have been compared to, so now I'm sure she'd love to watch
them as well. Maybe the fact anime Taiki takes everything so seriously
would make her appreciate a comedic portrayal of herself even more.
Although I'm sure anime Seiya would think Sayuri's Seiya needs to loosen
up at times (though her sweet, round, dimpled face and angel's voice might
cause a very strange crush), and Yaten would probably come out of the theatre
pouting because Momoko portrayed her as completely hyper and over the top,
but that's just them. That Taiki would be in hysterics the whole
time and come out beaming is all that matters to me :-) .
Unfortunately, the Lights don't appear in
the myu often, so it was a few years before the Lights came back.
(Personally, I wish they were used in every myu rather than just
at the end of a stage, but it's not up to me :-( ) Hikari, by
then, was not only in her thirties, but had left the myu altogether.
(Visit her site to see what she's been up to since-- she seems
to be doing well for herself :-) ) Fortunately, when they finally
returned, they were played largely as serious characters, cutting down
on comparisons to the popular first stage Lights.
During the second stage, Taiki was played
by another lovely and talented actress. . . who had me worried for a
while, as the first photos I saw of her looked very zombie-like, and
it took me a while to stop comparing the second stage Lights' singing to
The Chipmunks. Fortunately, not only does Nakayama Akiko look much
nicer on video, but she forces her voice into a deeper, more Taiki-appropriate
pitch as well. Her face is more rectangular and her forehead a
bit small, but her features look very much like anime Taiki's. . . a fact
which surprised me, as I'd always imagined the Lights' features being more
exotic and alien. . . but it was a pleasant surprise! Akiko's not
as good at looking androgynous as Hikari, so her Taiki is a bit more bishounen,
and she's a bit well-endowed in the chest to pass herself off well as
a guy, anyway. I can't find any stats on her height, but she is
definitely short for the role-- she wears higher heels than the others,
yet is still shorter than Seiya. For me, at least, that's a plus,
being the short Taiki-loving girl I am. If Akiko can put on a pair
of big shoes and be Taiki, I can easily do the same! Have to work
on the voice, though. . .
The writers are definitely convinced Taiki
is a "playboy", as Akiko continues the tradition of chatting up all
the girls. To me it seemed the sort of very shallow "meet and greet"
type of thing expected of celebrities, though. She seemed a bit
more cheery about it than anime Taiki, as if she didn't mind the fans,
rather than putting up with them just because she has to. But where
Hikari's Taiki is mostly funny, with her serious moments, Akiko's is almost
totally serious, with just a touch of comic relief. She isn't as
intellectual (or as convinced of her own intellectual superiority :-P )
as a Taiki should be, but she's quite good, nonetheless. She gets
a bit melodramatic once in a while, which I at first thought was a negative,
but on further thought, just seems to be part of Taiki's character, even
in the anime. My only complaints about the performance are trivial
and not Akiko's fault at all; I just think that 1) She should've worn
the glasses! Or even cuter ones, maybe? I like Taiki in glasses,
and Hikari was adorable in them, so I'm sure Akiko would've been, too!
2) I still wanna see Taiki and Ami flirt in the myu, yet still I go unfulfilled!
*cries* There was a split-second when Taiki fan-greeted
Ami, and Ami looked awfully glad to be meeting her, but that was
it :-( . And not only was there not Taiki+Ami flirtation, but SRD
showed Zoisite flirting with Ami instead! Bleh. Takeuchi-san
drew one picture of Senshi paired with
Shitennou, then abandoned the idea, yet even now people use
it as if it were true. . . *grumbles*
Though the others still call Seiya "Leader",
she doesn't appear to be the second stage Lights' lead vocalist, as
nearly all her solos are either changed to harmony (which, admittedly,
these Lights excel at) or given to Taiki (well, she is the better singer.
. .). Taiki also shows the most personality and fullest range of
emotion of the three, proving Akiko the best second-stage Lights actress.
Part of it may be that she was written better than the others, though.
Given the positive treatment of Taiki in every myu she's appeared in,
I sometimes wonder if the writers might be fans of hers. They definitely
don't see her as the unattractive, boring character so many Western fans
do!
I think Taiki would like Akiko's version
of her, though, of course, not for the same reasons she enjoyed Hikari's.
Taiki is a woman who can truly appreciate artistry; she would
simply enjoy Akiko's talent, the beauty of her voice, and the
expression in her face. And she probably wouldn't say it, but
she would know she had the best of the actresses. Seiya would likely
wonder why Chinatsu's Seiya had only two expressions, happy and sad (lovely
at doing each, mind you, but needed some range in between), as well as lamenting
having been replaced on lead vocals. Yaten would be a bit more pleased
because Mikako is pretty cute, and played her more seriously than Momoko,
though she could've shown more personality (folding one's arms and glaring
a lot doesn't equal Yaten-like bitchiness. . . but she's young yet, so there's
time to learn).
If asked which Taiki I prefer, I would have
a hard time answering, as I adore (and have a crush on :-P ) them both.
They have completely different takes on the character. I'm
not sure whether Akiko may have watched the show as a child, and been
more familiar with the character, or whether Hikari had been briefed
on the right traits, but likes to bring something of herself into all
her characters. I guess I should just be glad she has yet to be played
by an actress I don't like, which, for a Sailor Senshi, is quite rare,
indeed.
Taiki Sounds
A little from various, forgotten places on the Internet, but
most I recorded myself. I'll warn you in advance, the ones I make
suck :-P . I'll put up more later when I can find/make them.
The sounds are now up and living on my sounds page. click here to
visit them.
Note: If the sounds have gone down, or if you were hoping for
more, I fear you are out of luck, as I sorta lost the password to that
place long ago, and can't remember which e-mail I got it under to have
the password re-sent -_-; . Maybe one day I'll play with it a
while and see if I can remember.
Taiki Pics
From various, mostly forgotten sources, collected over the
years.
Since Geocities is stingy with bandwidth now, I'm cutting this list down
as much as possible, and leaving up just personal favourites.
(Boy, this will be hard, since I thought I'd done just the favourites
before. . .) Hopefully this will cause fewer page shutdowns.
Please try to understand.
