February 19, 1999: Mark your calendars: I just found out that Al's football movie "On Any Given Sunday" is scheduled to open on November 5th of this year! This is probably a tentative date, but expect it mid-fall anyway.
February 19, 1999: Al Pacino is very close to inking a deal to star in "City by the Sea," a new film for Warner Bros. The film, which is based on a true story, is about Vincent LaMarca (Pacino), whose father was executed in the 1950s for kidnapping an infant and leaving it to die. Years later, LaMarca becomes a police officer and is investigating a murder when he discovers that his son, Joey, committed the crime. The detective, still haunted by his father's death and his own corrupt past, seeks redemption by saving his son (this movie sounds really good to me!). Michael Caton-Jones ("Rob Roy," "The Jackal") is set to direct, and though the deal isn't official, Variety reports that it should be wrapped up shortly. (Is it just me or does Al play a lot of cops and a lot of guys named Vincent?)
February 9, 1999: Awesome news for anyone who lives in the L.A. area...

AL PACINO WILL STAR ON STAGE IN LOS ANGELES FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME THIS SUMMER!!!!
That's right, your eyes are not deceiving you; Al will star in and direct the Eugene O'Neill one-act play "Hughie" at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. "Hughie" is the story of Erie Smith, a hustler played by Pacino, and his struggle to overcome the death of his friend, Hughie. Al also directed and starred in "Hughie" in New Haven, CT and on Broadway during the summer and fall of 1996 (which I did see - it was fabulous and I highly recommend it for any PacinoFreak). Previews start June 19, it opens on June 27, and will end its five week run on July 25. Tickets go on sale May 23; for more information call (213) 628-2772.

February 5, 1999: CBS has decided to develop a television series based on Al's 1997 film "Donnie Brasco." The Tiffany Network has greenlighted the pilot for "Falcone," in which actor Jason Gedrick might play the lead. The series will follow the original novel by Joe Pistone, "Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia," more closely than the movie did and will focus on the secret agent's family ties more. The pilot will be shot in March in New York, and expect it to be on CBS's 1999 fall lineup.
January 29, 1999: Finally a way to once-and-for-all settle the Pacino/DeNiro dispute...
In the second season premiere of MTV's claymation wrestling show "Celebrity Deathmatch," our beloved Al Pacino will be pitted against that other legendary Italian thespian, Robert DeNiro! The show will be broadcast Thursday, February 4th (by bday - what a nice present!) at 10 PM on MTV. Although circumstances as to the outcome of the fight are still unknown, I have my money on Big Al. He did, afterall, get the best of Bobby boy in "Heat"...
January 18, 1999: Just found out at the IMDb that two of Al's movies are set for tentative release this fall! "Man of the People," which just finished shooting, and "Any Given Sunday," which is to commence filming this month, are both scheduled for release some time this fall, although I'm a little doubtful about "Sunday" being released that quickly, but we'll have to see. Any further info on release dates will be given as soon as I find out.
