Maytel's Bold New Direction

or, Dan Decides to Post His Fanfic

This part of the website is a little different than the others, readers. Elsewhere on this website, you've already found essays, reviews, and some well-chosen links to other sections of the Internet. In all cases, you've been privvy to my thoughts, criticisms, and analyses of animated films. Indeed, many of you have written to me to thank me for taking such a pensive approach to animation criticism.

But let's not forget that this is a webpage after all, and I reserve the right to post the occassional narcissistic exercise.

And so, submitted for your approval, is my little piece of Fan Fiction entitled Maytel's Bold New Direction. I wrote this piece way back in early 1999, posted it to one of the anime Usenet groups, and also allowed it onto a Galaxy Express fan page. At the time the fanfic was released to the general public, I got some good reactions to it. People who read it thought it was hilarious, while some fanboys left the experience utterly confused. I wrote the piece in a vapid Entertainment Weekly format, and treated all the anime characters as though they were actual, living people. In other words, you can look at my Fan Fic as though it were an anime Who Framed Roger Rabbit. I still get a good laugh out of the piece, and so I HTML-ized it, updated it, and posted it to my own Web Site.
