Gayborhoods
Kenwood
The
charm of Historic Kenwood can be seen in the stately mature trees,
brick streets and a beautiful community park. Architecture in
Historic Kenwood consists of 1920's bungalows, Mediterranean Revival,
and colonial Revival homes. This neighborhood contains beautifully
renovated, historic homes plus many historic homes ready to be
renovated.
Gulfport
This
sleepy little town with a white sand beach offers a multifaceted
life for its inhabitants. Exquisite downtown cuisine, a performing
art center, and a fishing pier and marina are just a few of the
diversions available. Established in the early 1900's, picturesque
Gulfport is located on Boca Ciega Bay looking west to St. Pete
Beach.
Roser
Park
This
27-acre Historic Area was listed on the National Register for
its significance in community planning and development, architecture,
and landscape architecture. Roser Park is home to a wide variety
of architectural styles and types, including Frame Vernacular,
Bungalow, Prairie, Foursquare, Craftsman, Mediterranean Revival,
Colonial Revival, Neoclassical and Tudor Revival. Approximately
173 structures are located within the district. It was the first
residential subdivision to be established outside of the downtown
St. Petersburg business district, and was an early "streetcar
suburb" conveniently located along the old Gulfport trolley
line.
Grand
Central District
An
up and coming neighborhood in St. Petersburg that offers a unique
combination of commercial, office and residential activity. The
neighborhood boast historic as well as new architecture. Truly
a thriving home decor and artist community. From your front door
you can walk to galleries, antique stores, restaurants, and unique
shops.
Hyde
Park
The
Hyde Park district is a delightful combination of yesterday and
today. Tampa's oldest existing neighborhood lies immediately across
the Hillsborough River to the west of the Downtown business and
cultural core. Historic homes have undergone intensive renovation
efforts and beautifully reflect the distinctive Florida "Boom"
architectural style of the 1920's and 30's.
Old Hyde Park Village, an upscale commercial development of retail
and service establishments, accents the new vitality of Tampa's
most historic neighborhood district. Heavily shaded and immediately
accessible to Bayshore Boulevard, Hyde Park is a popular local
landmark within itself, deserving of its unique distinction.
Seminole Heights
A tree-shaded gem nestled in the heart of Tampa. Stately historic
homes of many different styles and eras reflect a unique and diverse
neighborhood spirit. Residents of this community lovingly restore
their homes, and are dedicated to the historic fabric and inclusive,
friendly atmosphere of their neighborhood. The sheltering oak-lined
trees and different, unique housing provide a nostalgic, romantic
feeling. Throughout all of Seminole Heights, Bungalows are the
dominant house style, but Mediterranean Revivals, Frame Vernaculars,
American Four Square and Colonial Revivals create a unique, eclectic
mix that is evident today.
Tampa Heights
Tampa Heights, Tampa’s first residential suburb, is a beautiful
community. It is a picturesque neighborhood where stately oak
trees, brick streets, and dedicated residents create a small-town
feeling. The convenience of being close to downtown and Ybor City,
as well as easy access to both I-4 and I-275, affords Tampa Heights
a uniquely central location. Residents, business owners and government
officials, who appreciated the history of the area, are investing
in its future. The Mayor's Office has worked with the Preservation
Board and Tampa Preservation, Inc. to restore the area by creating
the Tampa Heights Historic District. Realizing the value of being
close to downtown has sparked the redevelopment of Tampa Heights.
The prominence of the Mayor's Heights project and the dedication
of its Civic Association, has created an atmosphere that has brought
renewed interest in the neighborhood, creating opportunities for
the future.
Ybor
City
Ybor City is one of only three National Historic Landmark Districts
located in the State of Florida. Cobblestone streets and huge
old cigar factory buildings make up this historic and legendary
town. Founded in 1886 by Vicente Martinez Ybor, Ybor City became
"the cigar capital of the world" by 1900. The factories
were worked by mostly Cuban cigar makers, and to a lesser degree
by Italians and Spaniards. By the early 1950's the cigar factories
were gone. Ybor City was revitalized in the late 1990's and now
attracts large numbers of visitors due to the wide variety of
shops, restaurants, clubs, and galleries. Ybor is quickly becoming
a mixed use neighborhood.
