How pop culture conspired to make Anna love a spanking

Despite the title, I can’t really tell you how pop culture conspired to make me love a spanking, in the sense of how certain cultural objects had an effect in history, and I won’t bore you with why, psychologically, I turned out the way I did. (On the subject of masochism and its many origins, see Bob Flanagan’s poem “Why.” ) Instead this is an album of the spanking images that fascinated me when I was a child.

Batman and I

When I was five years old I loved to watch Batman. Every week, Batman and Robin were tied up side by side I know, the picture doesn't match my description. and slowly fed into the maw of some fiendish contraption. I wanted to be Robin, bound and struggling alongside Batman, the two of us stoically enduring the trials set for us by arch villains. I won't go so far as to say I fantasized a spanking villain--("Look at these paddles, Robin! This caper is the work of Spanking Man!" "Holy red rear end, Batman!")--but I recognized that, as a superhero sidekick, I would be called upon to submit to tremendous spankings. I was ready.
