Toxie, Nazi, Nuke 'Em High. . .Why Troma Doesn't Suck

Okay, most of you out there have been to college. This means at least some of you have experienced what we called "bad movie night". You go to your local rental place, pick up 5 or 6 titles from the "Le Bad Cinema" aisle, and go back to the dorm for some midnight madness. Chances are you picked up more than one title from the Kings of Cult Classics. . .
Troma Films

Troma Films is probably the most successful independent film house of the past 20-or-so years. It would seem that as soon as a Troma Team Release hits the theater (or, in some cases, the video store) it gains legendary status almost immediately. In the mid-to-late 80s, Troma drummed up a mainstream following with two of its most popular movie series to date: The Toxic Adventure and The Class of Nuke 'Em High. Both series dealt with the post-nuclear hangups that were ravaging the country at the time, but with such a campy and exploitive flavor that both films spawned three sequels.

Quite possibly the most infamous of Troma's productions is the 1971 offering BloodSucking Freaks. The action takes place in a "grand guignol" theater where the audience doesn't know that the torturous acts taking place on stage are the real thing! As you can tell from the poster, Freaks is a senses-shattering blend of camp and gore that has to be seen to be believed.

Troma's latest release is an adaptation of a Shakespearean classic. . .Tromeo and Juliet adds the cult-classic flavor that Leonardo Di-what's-his-name probably never could! This soon-to-be Troma classic has began a limited run on the midnight movie circuit to fantastic reviews. And oh, those Tromettes!

Look for the Troma fave Sgt. Kabukiman, NYPD to be released on video before the end of '97. The Troma Team is also hard at work on it's next big feature, Killer Condom. Keep your eye on the 'Den for more info on this anticipated premiere!!
