Bloodsport 1 1988
character- | The first time I saw this movie was at 10 pm on the Spanish channel, and although I don't speak Spanish it was still easy to follow and quite kitsch. The cookie cutter plot is Frank (Jean Claude Van Dame) a martial artist who trained with a legendary sensei comes to compete in a secret fight to the death tournament. On the way he meets Ray Jackson who is competing in the same tournament representing the "drunken Irish brawling fighting style". At least that's what is says on jiggscasey.com Of course when Ray says it, it comes off as more legitimate. |
Anyway despite getting off on the wrong foot they become friends,(and even play a video game together,) which makes Ray's fate painfully obvious. In any 80's action movie there can be only one hero so the *friend* character always has to get loose/get in trouble/get beaten up, etc... so even though he won his first match in record time- |
|
Ray looses to the main villain which results in him slipping in to a coma (and the villian taking his Harley Davidson bandana.)
| As you could probably guess, fueled by revenge Frank beats the villain, wins the tournament, returns the bandana; all is happy (and Ray goes on to be in Bloodsport 2). |
