Donald Gibb (or just Don Gibb since about 1994); the original gulity pleasure. Before Tyler Mane was entertaining audiences everywhere as a trucker, a super villian, and a bully oil well worker (Joe Dirt 2001), or the Rock was beating up a room full of bad guys with a stick, or Goldberg was was trying to break in to films by playing a bas @$$ santa or before any other larger then life superstars even thought about trying for Hollywood Gibb already secured his place as a star in both action and comedy from |
cult classic films as BloodSport 1 and 2 (and the much more popular Revenge of the Nerds 1, and 2.) He is the origional cinema tough guy, paving the way for the many former athleates, stuntmen, and pro-wrestlers to follow. Even in this new melinium ,with so many wannabe's to choose from ,his unique screen presence continues to dominate as his celebrity status continues to rise. (also see his very fun "official" site) toddsbeer.com which has candid pics, sound, and a few unique items you can buy.) | |
At 6'3" he is not as big as the forementioned wrestler- actors, but he comes from an athletic background similar to several of today's big stars. Born in New York he was raised in California, then went to college at the University of New Mexico as a basketball player and a brother in Phi Delta Theta. THEN he went to University of San Diego as a football player (how many action stars got their start that way?) |
But either way Don is the origionl; the ultimate star for the ages. Don is sexy, Don is creative, beautiful, strong, (of course) talented and not above expanding his dramatric range (namely the 2004 indy film Lightning Bugg.)

In the first half a decade or so he had the look of a 1990's comedy actor (however he still stood out due to his size)but it's not my personal favorite look for him. click here to see more pics from wasteoftechnology.com |
In the late 80's he has a new, more rugged look that would suit him well as his career transitioned from comedy to action. |
if you do an image search you will see this picture at least 5 times or more, so I dub Bloodsport 1 Gibb's first major success in the action genre.(and it's the first Gibb film I saw.)His rugged look worked well; especially when he competes in the tournament and is covered in blood after a hard fought victory. |
Now this is what i'm talking about! Looking totally hot with long hair and tattoos his "biker look" would carry over for the next 8 years or so. |

I have not seen this movie but he looks like how he did in bloodsport 2. |
looking oh so sexy as a big time criminal named Michael, Gibb's role is over before it even begins. But some good did come out of this, because it was durring the Chicago filming he met Todd of todd's adventure beer and (as I said earlier)launched
toddsbeer.com | 8 years later he has a sweet, "gentle giant" look to him, which works well as he lands roles teen-comedy movies. |
This teen comedy showcased many fameous faces in cameos, (if you watch the dvd in commentary mode you can hear all sorts of fun insights that make the film a true gem--even though i have to admit when I first saw the tralier I thought I would never want to see a movie about skateboarding.) anyway, as 'Scabby secrurity gaurd' (he looks like he fell asleep on a grill) his role is small but memorable. |
