The name ANITA MANN is synonymous with the best
in show business. Honored by the Academy of Television
Arts and Sciences as one of the country's top five
contemporary choreographers, ANITA has been involved in the
entertainment industry for most of her life. She is an
acclaimed dancer, choreographer, producer, director, writer
and EMMY AWARD winner for best choreography for the 1995
MISS AMERICA PAGEANT. This was the first time in history
an EMMY was awarded to a pageant!
In another history making nomination, ANITA was nominated
in the best choreography category for "THE 1997 JERRY LEWIS
TELETHON". It is the first time a nomination has been
given to this TELETHON!
ANITA's unique ability to create innovative, exciting shows
and turn the concepts into reality can be partially
attributed to her training that began as a small child.
Born and raised in Detroit, ANITA was dancing as soon as
she could walk. While still a high school student, she
danced in the film "BYE BYE BIRDIE"! ANITA was cast in
"SPIN OUT", the first of several ELVIS PRESLEY films she
did. Renowned choreographer JACK BAKER was so impressed
with ANITA's abilities that he hired her to help him
choreograph several ELVIS films. She also served as JACK's
assistant on "HERE'S LUCY" and "THE LUCY SHOW". It was
during this time that ANITA learned how to make magic
behind the camera as well as in front of it!
"It was a fabulous break for me. I learned about editing,
lighting and camera techniques."
During the middle 60's, ANITA danced on several television
variety shows, including
"SHINDIG" - "HULLABALOO" - THE DANNY THOMAS SHOW" and THE
JERRY LEWIS COMEDY HOUR"
The early 70's were a time of "firsts" for ANITA. She
choreographed her first televison series "THE NEW ZOO
REVIEW" and gave birth to her first child! She also
choreographed several CBS specials.
It was during this time that she founded the renowned ANITA
MANN DANCERS who continue to headline throughout the
country and created what was soon to become her trademark:
her live shows!
In 1975, she choreographed "THE 47TH ANNUAL ACADEMY
AWARDS".
In 1976, she choreograped and directed "SHOWTIME AMERICA",
a BICENTENNIAL show at BUSCH GARDENS produced by magician
MARK WILSON.
ANITA also had a very special relationship with JIM HENSON.
In 1979 she received an EMMY nomination for her work on
"THE MUPPETS GO TO HOLLYWOOO". She was then chosen to
choreograph "THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER" and to create, direct
and choreograph "SESAME STREET LIVE"!
ANITA joined SOLID GOLD during the second season in 1982
and served as choreographer and dance segment director
until the end of the sixth season in summer of 1986. She
received an EMMY nomination for her choreography of the
"1984 SOLID GOLD CHRISTMAS SPECIAL".
IN 1986, ANITA produced "BLAST FROM THE PAST" in Los
Angeles. "BLAST" continues to be one of the longest
running and most critically acclaimed cabaret shows!
ANITA created her first cruise ship show for the COSTA
CRUISE LINE in 1992, featuring the ANITA MANN DANCERS on
stage! Soon, she was creating live shows for HOLLAND
AMERICA LINE and ROYAL CARIBBEAN INTERNATIONAL!
In 1990, ANITA was the one person chosen to direct a PSA
featuring PRESIDENT and MRS BUSH to promote the historic
animated special on substance abuse, "CARTOON ALLSTARS TO
THE RESCUE". ANITA is extemely proud of this show - which
aired simultaneously an ABC, CBS and NBC!
She co-produced and directed "THE MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER
RANGERS" - a live show that toured the world. She also
choreographed the MISS AMERICA PAGEANT since 1994!
ANITA has also directed DAYTIME TV PROMOS for both CBS and
NBC - three FITNESS VIDEOS for JANE FONDA - and MUSIC
VIDEOS for OZZY OSBOURNE and the POINTER SISTERS!
ANITA is actively involved in charitable causes. She
produces the annual celebration for the INNER CITY GAMES in
Las Vegas for ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER's organization as well
as the OPENING NUMBER for the MDA TELETHON every year!
Her most recent stage show "TAP GIRLS" which opened at
HARVEYS RESORT HOTEL/CASINO, received raved reviews and
featured former SOLID GOLD DANCER - COOLEY, also enjoyed a
successful run in ATLANTIC CITY!
While ANITA takes a great deal of pride in her work and
many accomplishments, she is most proud of her two
"fabulous" sons who she says are "really great people"!
