KEVIN CARLISLE CREATED THE
SOLID GOLD DANCERS!"I wanted to put together a group of dancers that was made up of eight totally different, unique individuals that the audience could recognize. I felt it was time to make a change from the background wallpaper that dancers usually seemed to be on television where you could never distinguish one from another and give the audience a chance to know them. I also wanted the producers to perceive the dancers as a definite asset to the show with as much value as some of the "star" performers they booked." ********** "Originally SOLID GOLD was a two hour TV special and that was all the producers planned that it should be. It was a countdown of the top twenty songs of the preceeding year, (I think it was twenty), with some "extras" thrown in as they did on the show that was on for years in the 50's and 60's called "The Hit Parade".....and also some comedy spots. What happened was that the special got such good ratings when it was first aired that the producers were then able to sell it as a series very quickly and they hired me to choreograph the series with the possibility of directing some of the shows as well. Lou Horvitz (the director of the show) was generous enough to let me set most of the camera shots for the dance numbers, however, I was hired to direct some other shows before I got a chance to direct any of the SOLID GOLD shows and subsequently left SOLID GOLD after four and a half years to be free to do more directing and producing of shows on my own." ---------- KEVIN graduated from the JULLIARD SCHOOL OF MUSIC! He has directed and choreographed over 450 TV and STAGE productions in the Unitd States and throughout the world for such artists as BARRY MANILOW, MELISSA MANCHESTER, DIONNE WARWICK, BOB HOPE, BILL COSBY, MARILYN MCCOO and TINA TURNER - just to name a few. He is truly a "multi-media" man - having woked on STAGE, SCREEN, TELEVISION and CD-ROM! KEVIN received an EMMY AWARD for "THE THIRD BARRY MANILOW SPECIAL"!
