We have 2 very good theaters and a drive-in:
- The Richland Mall Cinemas - which has about 10 theaters that show the latest releases
- Westwood Plaza Theater- it has 2 screens but great sound, tasty and different foods, and a fun atmosphere. The owner often shows up and introduces each film. They even have Superbowl parties!
- Silver Drive-in - double features and $5.00/carload on Tuesday nights! It's still a crowded place for those long summer nights
A great place to take
pictures is at the Inclined Plane. It has a breathtaking view and is a fun place to visit. It was used to rescue those living downtown from the flood in 1936. There is a restaurant as well as a great little Ice Cream Shoppe. At night, a laser light show fills the sky above the city. There is also a souvenir shop. Call (814) 536-1816 for more information.
- Every Labor Day weekend, the city holds it's Folk Fest. This is a celebration of our different backgrounds and history. There is a TON of ethnic food, music, and fun!! All throughout the city people dance and share in their heritage. Try some pierogies orhalushki, kolbassi or gobs - they are all tasty! It is a time when everyone celebrates their differences as well as their common bond - Johnstown.
- There is a Farmer's Market that is held on Main Street at Central Park during the fall on Saturday mornings. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables as well as other delectable delicacies (carmel apples!!)
- Memorial Day Weekend starts the Southmont Fireman's Jubilee. A little fair held on the softball field in Southmont, there are rides and food and music and a parade. On Friday night are the fireworks, everyone's favorite.
- Later in the summer is the Ferndale Jubilee, which is much like the Southmont Jubilee, only this is near the baseball field in Ferndale.
- St. Theresa's Festival, the biggest of them all! This is usually in late summer and has the biggest rides!
- The Johnstown Chiefs is the name of our local ECHL hockey team. Visit their webpage for their upcoming schedule.
- The Johnstown Johnnies is our Frontier League baseball teams who have made the playoffs for the last four years and were the champs in '94 and '95. Call (814) 536-TEAM for more information.
- Cambria County Fair starts over Labor Day weekend on the nearby Ebensburg fairgrounds. Fun, games, and food, it is a great way to end summer.
- For year-round fun, take everyone to the Windber Recreation Park for ice skating, swimming, basketball, picnics, waterslides, or classes ranging from aerobics to yoga. Call (814) 467-6696 for hours.
