This is my favorite film of the last several years. It is a mixture of beautiful Florida beach scenery, beautiful music, pretty girls, good acting, and interesting twists throughout. It accurately captures the gleeful friendship of youth and so many typical personality types with all of their foibles--uncles, mothers, lovers, tourists, the sheriff--and it captures youthful insouciance contrasted against the miserable world of adults and their self-induced problems. This slightly obscure film may one day become a neotephile cult film.
The beach settings portray nature at its best. If you've ever been to a quiet, scenic beach with pine trees you probably know the soothing, spiritual effect it can have. The movie had a powerful effect on me when I first saw it; the scenery and the haunting suspended guitar chords from the main theme "Oyster Blues" kept running around my brain as I tried to sleep that night.
