The origin of the Resort (2)

It was only 6 months later that iae complained again. Now the thumbnails alone generated 80MB a day. This time the entier site was transferred to Geocities, and the portal at iae auto-redirected all visitors, as to make sure their follow-on would be on Geocities as well.

For those who bookmarked my pages directly at iae, I maintained an image, as this would only be a minority of the users, so traffic would be bareable.

Then, late march 2000, with almost 100.000 visitors tracked, lightning struck and destroyed my PC. The pictures were safe, but the auto-generating software was lost.

This loss of software provided a good reason to redo the entier lay-out, and that is what you are admiring now. This new lay-out is yet another experiment.

The first version of Resort was a more or less middle-off the road design, as you can find zillions on the web. The second edition was different, being almost entierly text based. It was an effort in designing a good-looking site using only text-attributes.

This, the 3rd, edition you are currently looking at is yet another experiment. This version is completly graphics oriented, is deliberatly made "keyboard hostile" and uses (or will use) a lot of DHTML.
