This is a Background
Gorilla rifle as seen in the second film, Beneath the Planet of
the Apes. There were two types of background rifles . Both made
after the original film. The first rifle is made of wood
with a faux bolt action. This rifle or "stunt" rifle
(as I like to refer to it) is very similar in appearance to the
wood rifle. The major difference is that this rifle is a cast
resin prop and the bolt action is molded into the prop. There
is very little weight to this piece, thus making it easier to
handle than the heavier wood rifle. These props were intended
for use by the background
apes when Ursus' army invaded the Forbidden Zone. Like most of
the background props in this series of film, this weapon was never
really intended to be seen up close. That was the job of the hero-rifle.
Like the background-gorilla
costume this prop saw a lot of screen time.
