ROSWELL
Season 1, Episode 8: Blood Brother
At school, Maria gets a cell call from Liz, and the rest of the gang is at the hospital soon after. Meanwhile, Liz is bombarded by questions about the accident, but can only wonder if Max will be alright, and what she should do about keeping his secret. As the rest of the gang shows up, the nurse is in the middle of taking Max's blood. The aliens stare in disbelief, and Michael begins to try and sweet-talk her.
Unfortunately, Depolski has also found out about the accident, and has deployed "suited men" for the situation. Liz and Isabelle talk about what they should do about the blood. They figure they need a male's blood, and Liz immediately thinks of Alex. After Maria drives him to the hospital, Liz asks for his blood! Alex agrees, but nervously, not knowing what he's getting himself into.
Michael, at this time, has found the "blood lab" and has begun looking around for Max's blood. When he hears a noise, he hides behind a shelf, and sees a disguised "suited man" looking for the blood. Before he can find it though, the nurse returns. Finally, Michael devises a scheme. He appears at the lab door, and with surprising confidence, asks the nurse out on a date. As he distracts her with his words and compliments, he switches Max's blood for Alex's.
As the gang sits in the waiting room, Liz mentions that perhaps Alex should go home. Alex cannot believe this turn of events, since he has sacrificed so much and gotten nothing in return. Liz feels uneasy about lying to such a good friend, but also feels that her loyalty must take priority with the aliens. When Isabelle announces that Max has recovered consciousness, everyone is relieved. The doctor describes his recovery as miraculous, but he might have had some help from a "Czech." Max tries to get out of any more hospital examinations as quickly as possible.
As the gang is walking out of the hospital, Maria realizes that she left her purse behind. When Michael goes back to get it, he sees more disguised "suited men" looking through the trash by Max's bedside. When Depolski gets debriefed by one of her "suited men," she figures that the aliens probably switched Alex's blood for Max's.
After school the next day, the gang try out a plan to see if the "suited men" are really following them. First Max and Liz go on a pretend date. After losing the "suited man," Michael, Maria, and Isabelle follow him to his motel room. They "stake" it out until the man leaves, and then go in to ruffle through his belongings and collect some information of their own. They find a ripped-up phone number in the trash, and decide to call it. Surprise, it's Depolski!
Back at school (for some odd reason... it's so late in the afternoon!), Liz discusses telling Alex the aliens' secret, but Max is against it, though he is thankful for his help.
At school (I guess the next day), Depolski slyly tries to befriend Alex. Thankfully, Liz intercepts. Depolski leaves, and Liz tries to talk to Alex. Alex suddenly gets a bloody nose (thanks to a drug Depolski put in his drink), and leaves Liz behind. As he throws a bloody napkin in the trash, Depolski retrieves it (to analyze the blood).
The Crashdown finds the gang again, discussing Depolski's involvement with the "suited men." And the next day at school, Alex finds himself in Depolski's office. Depolski is evasive and tries to get Alex to tell her anything he knows. Alex leaves before saying anything; later, Max finds him resting his head in his locker. When he tries to thank him for the switched blood, Alex tells him about Depolski.
After school, Alex meets Liz at the closed Crashdown. They have a good heart-to-heart talk about the "right side" and "wrong side." Liz begs him to take the "right side."
The next day, Alex knocks on Depolski's door. He asks again about her proposal, out of safety for his friends. Liz coincidentally knocks on Depolski's door a few minutes later, asking to talk to her in private. Meanwhile, Alex is in Depolski's office, alone, and ...breaking into her computer! When Depolski finds out that it was all a ploy, she runs back just in time to see Alex at her laptop. On the screen is the logo for the FBI.
"This isn't going to end just because you know who I am," she says before she leaves. When the two are left alone, Alex tells Liz that either she tells him the truth, or their friendship is over. Liz remains silent, and Alex walks away, shaking his head.
