Apparantly, madness and love are very much alike. In English lit at Rossett we were told all about this by everyone's fave teacher, Mr Graham!

He said that when people are mad, chemicals are released into their brain which makes them mad. These chemicals are the same chemicals that are released into the brain when you are in love too. This has been scientifically proven and there was an article in the New Scientist magazine all about it.

If you think about it, when you are love, you do lots of things that you would never have done before. This behaviour could be seen as madness. Of course it could just be part of an "antic disposition" (Hamlet reference) and you could be making it all up. In this case, it is not love, but could be madness. Also, when you are in love, you tend to do things without thinking, because you are so besotted with the other person that you can't think of anything else. The act of not thinking before acting can also be classified as madness, I'm sure you can see why!

Personally, I think this love/madness theory is quite valid. As many people know, I am mad and I am also madly in love. So, yes, love and madness are the same thing. Madness is not always a bad thing, more often than not, it's a good thing.
