LIZ PHAIR
HISTORY
Born on April 17, 1967 as Elizabeth Clark Phair, she was adopted as an infant by John and Nancy Phair and moved to Winnetka, Illinois where she grew up with her older brother Phillip. Moving around quite a bit it wasn't until 1991 that she made her first demo "Girlysound" at the persuasion of a friend Chris Brokaw, the guitarist for the band Come.
This demo made its way into the hands of John Henderson, who runs the Chicago indie record label 'Feel Good All Over', and he offered to rerecord some of them with Brad Woods (they were originally record on a 4 track in Liz's bedroom). This however never occurred due to a falling out between Phair and Henderson, however it did make way for a partnership between Woods and Phair who worked together on some stuff off "Girlysound".
In 1992 Liz got signed to Matador Records after sending them her demo and she went on to make "Exile In Guyville". From there she went to Atlantic Records where she made "Whip Smart" but later returned to Matador where she recorded "Whitechocolatespaceegg" in 1998.
