DINOSAUR PG Starring the voice of D.B. Sweeney
Eric says: ****** (6) I came to be dazzled. I left partially satisfied. Sure, the opening was awesome, but I had already seen as a preview in theatres and, months before that, on my daughter's Tarzan tape. So the new stuff I was left with satrted when the monkeys and lizards started talking. I made me come to realize one very important fact - no matter how good something might look, it better have some substance. I had seen this exact story play out before in countless Disney movies. The displaced outcast gets raised by an entirely different species, thereby teaching tolerance. Then the outcast meets one of his own and has longings to return to his own. A villian must be present just because. And, finally, the villian will fall to his death after the good guy tries to save them, even after they had been fighting. And there's always a happy ending. When will John Smith actually die, or Tarzan's entire clan of gorillas get wiped out? When will the t-rex not have to play the bad guy just because his digestive system insists he be a carnivore? As long as the makers are Disney (which now includes ABC, ESPN, and on and on and on...) it will never happen. And while that's not an inherently bad thing, I've grown up, so either give me something new or my interest in Disney will become extinct. |
