Costumes
So many people have expressed interest in making their
own reproductions of the costumes worn by Drew Barrymore
in Ever After, that I decided to include this
information I have on patterns available at a fabric
store near you. . .
(Note: Pictures of the patterns discussed are at
the bottom of the page)
Danielle's Work Clothes
I have yet to find a pattern that would create the
square-looking bodice of this costume. The closest I
have found is Simplicity #0657 - View C, which as you
can see is not close at all.
For the chemise, I suggest Simplicity #8192 - View B,
(note that the cuffs in the movie are drawstring, it
should not be hard to create this effect using this
pattern).
To reproduce the tie-in sleeves, try
Simplicity #0657 - View A.
As for the apron, I have to study this a little further
because right off the top I don't know of any pattern
to match. . .
Rescuing Maurice
This gown is the same basic shape as the masq gown, so
I would use either Simplicity 0657 - View A or McCall's
3053 - View A. If you are a talented seamstress, you
are probably even able to alter the pattern so the
bodice slightly overlaps in front as it does in the
movie. (Also, McCall's 2806 seems similar but I am
unfamiliar with this pattern, when I have this pattern
I will include more information here about it).
This gown also has tie-in sleeves, and my suggestion
would be to use Simplicity #0657 - View A. (Again,
McCall's 2806 looks close).
In this scene she wears a snood, and one is available
in Simplicity #0657 - View C.
Visit To The Monastary
With this gown, I'm at about the same point as I am with
the work clothes: I don't know of a pattern that is
close to this. I don't even know of a pattern with
similar sleeves, the only thing I can think of is to
use Simplicity #0657 - View B for the upper part of the
sleeves (which is puffed twice), and McCall's #3053 -
View B for the lower part (which should fit and go over
the hand). Good luck!
Ruins Of Dunbar
Without a question, I would say Simplicity #0657 - View
B is the most accurate reproduction of this gown. (The
only question I have is whether or not the overskirt
is open like the pattern, I will look into this & report
back here - stay tuned!)
Masq Ball Gown
The two closest are Simplicity #0657 - View A and McCall's
#3053 - View A. (I'm not sure & will have to look into
whether or not the dress has a long train in the movie. . .)
The McCall's pattern has much more accurate sleeves than
the Simplicity pattern, so I would probably use the
sleeves from McCall's and the dress from Simplicity.
Happily Ever After
I have yet to find a pattern close to this one.
For the sleeves I would use Simplicity #9531 - View A.
