Tim "The Toolman" Taylor is host of his cable TV show Tool Time with assistant Al Borland and "tool girl" Heidi. Tim is always getting into many forms of trouble with the tools because of his unending quest for MORE POWER!!! From everything to glueing his head to a table and knocking out Bob Vila with a 2x4 to breaking sacred blessing basins and electricuting himself. You name it, he's done it.
Tim's father passed away at age 40 when Tim was about 11 years old. He has 3 brothers. We frequently see Marty and his family (wife Nancy and twin daughters Gracie and Clare). Marty and Nancy are going through a messy divorce and Marty has moved in with the Taylors with his girls. We have recently been introduced to another brother, Jeff. Tim's mother lives alone and pops up every so often, most recently for Christmas.
Tim is (usually) happily married to his wife of around eighteen or so years, Jill. Together they've had three boys, Brad,Randy, and Mark. Tim's main interest is in his tools and cars and he tries to pass it along to his sons. Last season, Tim went through a mid-life crisis.
After the new producer turned Tim's beloved Tool Time into a joke, he gave up the show. He then agreed to move to Indiana when Jill got a job offer there. Due to the incredible success of the final Tool Time, Tim was offered an incredible raise and the chance to be executive producer. Not wanting Jill to give up her dream, he turned it down. But when Jill found out, things got complicated again. Tim and Jill finally decided to stay and Tim would take the job.
