Reba is one of four children; older sister Alice, older brother "Pake", and younger sister Susie. She grew up on a 7000-acre ranch and participated in rodeos at a young age. She sang with her sister Susie and brother Pake as the "Singing McEntires" during her early years. Later, in 1974 she was asked to sing "The Star Spangle Banner" at the National Rodeo Finals in Oklahoma City. It was there that she was discovered by Red Steagall. Steagal soon got her a record deal with Mercury Records in 1975. Her first single "I Don't Want to be a One Night Stand" was a hit. From then on she has released 29 albums. She has won 68 awards ranging from Female Vocalist of the Year to the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award all the way to Entertainer of the Year. The majority of her albums have went gold, platinum, double, triple, and quadruple platinum. Aside from her music career she has written and published two books: an autobiography with Tom Carter -- "Reba: My Story" and the most recent "Comfort From a Country Quilt: Finding Inspiration and Strength From Old Fashioned Values." She has also appeared in 8 movies with Tremors starting off her acting career and 3 made for television movies -- two based on her hit singles "Is There Life Out There" and "Forever Love" and including "Secret of Giving," a Christmas story, which debuted on television on Thanksgiving Day in 1999 followed by her second Christmas Album "Secret of Giving." Reba stays busy with her music, acting career, tours, and charities. She never seizes to amaze her fans. She is always surprising us with new and exciting music, concerts, books, and movies. This shows true through her new tour entitled "A Singer's Diary," a part Broadway play portraying her life from the beginning to the present and a part full-blown concert in one. The question now is "what's next?". Maybe we will soon find out. However, with Reba we can expect the best and the most intriguing new aspects to her projects ever created by a country music artist. |
