A survey of Erie citizens and residents of surrounding areas was done in 1995.
A summary of the 1995 survey
Due to the large influx of new residents who were not included in the 1995 town survey, some Erie citizens repeatedly requested that the Town of Erie coduct a scientifically valid survey as part of the 1999 revision to the Erie Comprehensive Plan. These requests continually rebuffed by the town administration.
As part of the planning for the AGREE poll, one member spoke with the National Research Center
(a national polling firm) and recorded the following exchange:
{an employee of NRC} "...actually talked with the city manager of Erie, and they actually were
talking about this kind of citizen survey a number of months ago, and they {Erie} chose for political
reasons not to conduct it I guess, or for some reason." January 20, 2000
