The Third Season
Voice Actors

Chaozu - Monila Antonelli sounds pretty much the same as Cathy Weseluck, so she does a good job of portraying Chaozu.  No coplaints, so Chaozu gets a 10/10.

Kami
- I Like Kami's new voice, Christopher "I must play everyone" Sabat, a lot more than the old one.  It sounds like the old Kami, but is much stronger and doesn't sound as strained and weak as the old voice.  I give Kami's new voice a 10/10.

Mr. Popo - Another good new voice.  It sounds pretty much like the old voice, which was good for the character.  Mr. Popo gets a 10/10.

Master Roshi - This new actor is kinda funny.  The first time I heard him I cringed.  He sounded like Colonel Sanders!  Fortunately, the next time he talked he sounded pretty much like Master Roshi's original voice, Ian Corlett.  Unfortunately, the time after that he sounded like Colonel Sanders once again!  It's very annoying to listen to some guy who continually switches between Northern and Southern accents!  At least Jeice switched from British to Australian and stayed that way.  Oh well, eventually he stays with his Northern accent and sounded pretty good.  I guess I'll give Colonel Sanders an 8/10.

Chi-Chi - This voice is okay, except it's a bit to obvious that Chi-Chi is also the voice of Bulma.  When I heard her say the line "I can't believe my dad broke the ship just so I couldn't leave for Namek."  I remember thinking, What?  Why did Bulma's dad break her ship, and isn't she already on Namek?  Oh yeah, that's Chi-Chi. However, she has begun to contrast her voice a bit between the two characters, much like a lot of the other voice actors on the show.  I give Chi-Chi an 8.5/10.

Yajirobe - I like Yajirobe's new voice.  It sounds a lot like the old actor, Brian Drummond, but isn't quite as gruff.  I have no problem with Yajirobe's new voice, so he gets a 10/10.

Dr. Briefs - Dr. Briefs sounds okay, except he is yet another one of the new characters that suffers from "accent distortion syndrome".  He sounds like the old Dr. Briefs, except he continually switches between an American accent and an English accent.  He hasn't really improved all that much yet, since he's only been on the show for a few episodes, so I'll give him an 8.5/10.

Mrs. Briefs - She sounds fine, except that she sounds a lot like Bulma and Chi-Chi, probably because she's played by the same actress as them.  When I heard Chi-Chi and Mrs. Briefs talking in the same scene, I had trouble telling where one voice ended and the other began.  I guess she gets a 9/10.

Ox King - Well, Ox King is - terrible.  He's probably the worst new voice I've heard yet!  He sounds nothing like the old voice.  The original Ox King was deep and fairly normal - sounding.  The new voice is high-pitched, scratchy, and incredibly annoying!  He sounds like he has a very, very bad cold.  Horrible, horrible, horrible.  Oh, well, he only had about four lines.  I give him a 5/10.

Oolong - Mark Britten is okay.  Not as good as the old voice, but not that bad.  The only real difference is that he sounds more blubbery than the old voice, which is also okay.  He gets an 8/10.

Puar - She sounds fine.  Monika Antonelli sounds pretty much the same as the old voice, just very slightly higher.  She gets a 10/10.

Narrator - The narrator is bad.  He sounds like he is trying to make a cartoon-character voice, which makes no sense, since the old narrator, Doc Harris, was just using his normal voice.  The narrator has improved a lot since the first few episodes of the third season, but is still no where near that of Doc Harris.  He gets a 6.5/10.

Recoome - Hm, interesting.  Yet another accent change.  Recoome sounds almost exactly like the old voice, but now has an Austrian accent, making him sound like Arnold Schwartzeneger!  The strange thing is, this voice seems like the type of decision FUNimation would make for a character who looks like that.  This makes me wonder if the original Recoome wasn't shooting for an Austrian accent, but couldn't get it across.  Weird.  Recoome gets a 9/10.

Guldo - This guy sounds totally different.  The old voice was blubbery and strained.  The new voice is young and hyper.  The strange thing is, it didn't sound at all strange to me when listening to him.  Maybe it was because Guldo's last appearance on DBZ was about thirty episodes ago.   It doesn't really matter, since he had about two lines.  I give Guldo an 8/10.

Zarbon -I'm glad they found this guy to play Zarbon's new voice.  It sounds exactly like the old one, which was an awesome voice!  Just as deep and serious, they even kept the Australian accent!  To bad he was only in one flashback scene.  I hope they use this voice actor for a future character, Like maybe one of the androids.  Zarbon gets a 10/10.

King Vegeta - Since King Vegeta made his first appearance in the third season, I have nothing to compare him to, which is good.  He sounds good for this character, so I give him a 10/10.

Bardock - Once again, this is Bardock's first appearance on the show, so I have nothing to compare it to.  I like this voice.  It sounds like a very cocky and slightly more matured version of Goku's voice.  He gets a 10/10.

Well, there you have it.  My personal reviews of all the new voices from the Third Season of Dragon Ball Z.  My personal opinion is that FUNimation basically did a pretty good job on choosing new voices.  Some of them were very good, some were okay, and a small amount were terrible.  A few things I noticed were that some characters had "accent distortion syndrome", some had scratchyer voices, and some sounded like they had colds.  Aside from these problems, they worked out very well.  Keep in mind that these are just my personal opinions, and are in no way either right or wrong.  You are therefore entitled to disagree with them, just don't send me hate mail for it!  If you don't like what I've written, then send me a calm and well-stated e-mail telling me your own reasons and opinions.  If what you give me is intelligent or controversal, I may post it in my opinions page, which as of yet has nothing in it.  Now go back to my home page!
