The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 42
"Captain this is Louis. Internal sensors have picked up a temporal anomaly in holodeck one. It was just for a brief moment. Now it's gone."
"Doctor to Ops, I am registring an emergency in holodeck one. I have sent cadet Caroline with an emergency medical kit over there. I cannot leave as my patient, junior lieutenant Chris is not yet fit enough."
"Acknowledged Doc. Cadet Caroline, cadet Thomas is in holodeck one so keep us posted."
"Aye captain"
As the door opened cadet Caroline just saw a dissapearing shadow of what seemed to be a person. The shadow was gone. Thomas was on his back, on the floor. His eyes were closed, but he was breathing easy. A first inspection of his body didn't reveal any injuries. As Caroline took her medical tricorder to examine Thomas more thorough, she discovered that Thomas was not hurt, but unconscious. She took a deep breath. As if she was a trained and fully equiped doctor, she took the hyperspray and injected Thomas with a substance which cadets usually called 'wake-up-call'. This was the substance some cadets used to keep awake during the periods of exams. She never used it herself, but she knew it was very effective. It certainly couldn't hurt. Comming back in the real world, Thomas started to move and only a moment later he was sitting strait up.
"Caroline ... I have to get to the captain. Something has happened."
Caroline tapped her commbadge and reported to the captain that Thomas seemed to be all right. Although the captain wanted Thomas in sickbay for an examination, Thomas told Caroline he had to talk to captain Arthur first.
"Thomas, are you sure ?", asked Caroline in surprise. She had seen that there was a problem with the holodeck, but wasn't that something for the engineers ? She had always thought captains or any other high ranking officer shouldn't be disturbed by a cadet with a futulity. She lived by that rule. But Thomas had become more than a fellow cadet, maybe even her friend.
"Now.", whispered Thomas as he tried to get up. Still a bit dizzy, he managed, with some help of Caroline to get to the neerest turbolift. A few seconds later the lift door opened and both cadets were in Ops. Captain Arthur was sitting at the science station. He was the only officer in Ops.
"Captain, could I please have a word, sir."
Thomas sounded a bit drunk. Arthur turned around, his eyes already a bit swelling of fatigue. It was time that the officers were back on the station to releave him. As he looked at Thomas, he seemed to be worried and imediately he wanted a complete report of what had happened in holodeck one. After the report he send both cadets to sickbay.
"Ops to engineering."
"Louis here captain."
"I have a good idea why we had a temporal anomaly in holodeck one. I'll explain later."
"Acknowledged. Louis out."
Arthur stepped forward to the communications station and opened a channel to runabout Alpha.
"Alpha here, go ahead DS2.", Marianne had just slept for four hours, running the runabout with automated systems.
"Marianne, you are four days from the station. You have exactly that time to come up with a device to scan time or predict temporal anomalies, or something like that.", the captain was not joking and he explained ...
