The Continuing Story of Deep Space 2: Page 78

Lukana's ship is hit multiple times, shutting down her weapons, shields and propulsion. The precision firing of the battledrones is incredible accurate. Only six minutes later, Lukana and her 54 crew are in the brig of the USS Ajax. Colonel Jan Theys sends a message to Admiral Arthur aboard the USS Strike.

Message from USS Ajax: Colonel Jan Theys in command.
To USS Strike.

Don't look any further for the Cardassian woman named Lukana. We have got her.

End of Message.

Two days later Lukana and her crew is locked up in the Deep Space 2 brig. While the USS Ajax is already back on patrol the USS Strike docks in Deep Space 2 spacedock. Admiral Arthur and Chief Engineer Louis disembark the USS Strike. While Louis' first thing to do is check on main engineering, Arthur immediately goes to the brig to see Lukana. But Lukana doesn't want to cooperate. Louis would inspect the captured ship of Lukana later. The technology of that ship could give insight of how Doctor Leka could travel with a ship, out of phase so easily.

"So you are Lukana. I have been looking for you. Your mercinaries have told us that you are the one who have recruted them. So now we want to know who you are, and for who you are working for. I cannot imagine that you have attacked the heaviest armored and armed battleship of the galaxy with a, excuse me the expression, rowing boat, without first being informed about it."

"So you are Admiral Arthur. You are our primary target. My compagnons will not fail. I will not tell you anything human. You will be destroyed..."

"You know what I think ? You have been set up. As soon as your boss knew I was looking for you he sent you to me, presuming I would kill you without thinking. But you attacked one of my ships at the wrong time at the wrong place, without any serious information. Your ship was no match at all for the USS Ajax. I think your boss wanted to eliminate you. So he gave you false information. I don't think Doctor Leka meant for you to say his name on a communications channel. That must have been your own initiative. He will not like that very much. He must be very mad by now, if he has found out that you are in my prison. His own prisoners are rescued and our ships already know how to find him. Actually, the net around him is already closing..."

It was silent for a moment. It was as if Lukana realised that Admiral Arthur could be true here. Why would Doctor Leka send her to her death. Her ship surely was no match for the enemy ship and Admiral Arhtur wasn't even aboard, while Doctor Leka had asured her he would be. For a moment she felt betrayed indeed. Leka had just used her. But as it was now, her life wasn't worth anything anymore.

"So Miss Lukana. I must say that I am rather happy this is not a Cardassian plot. Another war is not on my whish list."

Admiral Arthur is interupted by his Chief Engineer. Louis seems to be very excited.

"Admiral. This is Louis. This ship has some fine technology, but dangerous. Traveling through subspace and out of phase are of course fast ways to travel, but dangerous and these ways of space travel disrupts the space continuum. But I don't think criminals will care about that. Anyway, I have distributed this technology to all Federation ships and facilities. We should have our hands on this Doctor Leka. That's all."

"Understood."

But then Arthur had a very important question. He looked at the Cardassian woman in front of him.

"Apparently this Doctor Leka has a personal fight with me. Although I must say that I have never heard his name. I had my Federation spies and agents look for more information about this Doctor Leka, but nobody seemed to have heard from him. There is no record about what he has done. He is simply unknown. My guess is that this Doctor Leka is either a thief of technology, or some kind of agent in service of someone else. He is only a piece on the table. The real organiser of the attacks on the Federation is hidden... What do you think ?"

"I am not telling you anything anymore. I don't know that much. I am only a piece on the table, like you call it."

"OK, if that is what you want. We will find this Doctor Leka and get the information from him. Maybe we should put him in your cell. That could be interesting."

A grin appeared on Arthur's face. He knew it was only a matter of time. Doctor Leka would again attack and he would be caught or destroyed. If he would not, he could not stay hidden. The ruptures in space would show his hiding place. And the net was already closing on him. Arthur parked that thought in the back on his head while he left Lukana behind him. He took the turbolift to operations, where he was adressed by Joeri Verschaeve.

"Admiral. They found him. It is just a matter of hours before they actually got him in the brig."
